Mangagement Rings?

Re: Mangagement Rings?

  • Why is it short sighted to find something that completely goes against tradition and the cultural norm to be weird?

I also find marrying your first cousin weird, but that is totally done in other cultures.

I find murdering and then eating dolphins weird, but thats common in other cultures.

You guys are defending it like we said it should never be done.  Clearly SOME guys like to do it.  But they are a very small minority of the engaged population and I find it to be stupid.  Noone CARES that they do it.  I just think it makes them look like a whipped p*ssy and I think 9 out of 10 of those instances, the women has something to do with it.

You dont have to like my opinion, but its not shortsighted or stereotypical.  Women traditionally are the ones to wear the wedding dress too.  If all of a sudden the guy wanted to wear one too, I would find that just as weird.  Gender doesnt dictate how you show your love, but it plays heavily into all things wedding related.

  • I keep reading the title of this thread as "Management Rings" and thinking about a group of managers sitting in the back of some sketchy as fark store, taking bets on how long their employees last and pitting them against each other.

  • I think it's a rising trend.  I don't think only weird guys want this or that their future wives make them.  It's popular in our circle and none of us are from Brazil.

Marriage of first cousins is still legal in some US states.
  • Im not talking about cousins here. Since we are basing this off of Brazilian culture i was talking about other cultures around the world.

  • I gave my fiance an engagement ring for his Birthday last year, so that he could get used to wearing a ring. He liked the idea and loves wearing his ring. He loves the ring he has so much, that it is really hard getting him to pick a new one that will be his wedding band.

  • I think we're all forgetting that Cory Matthews had one on Boy Meets World.
And he lost it in a bar.

(That's, sadly, really all I have to contribute.)

</div><div>I don't really have an opinion on this either though. Wear a "mangagement" ring, don't wear a "mangagement" ring. Meh, to each their own. </div>

  • In Response to Re:Mangagement Rings?:[QUOTE]My fiance wears an engagement ring.nbsp; Similar to some of the stories above, it was his idea.nbsp; He wanted to wear a ring as a sign of the committment we had made to each other to get married, the same thing my ring represents.nbsp; I bought it for him, just as he bought mine.nbsp; It's a smaller, less shinier, lighter version of his wedding ring.nbsp; He plans on moving it to his right hand when we get married because the two rings are too wide to fit on one finger. If he wants to, why should he not?nbsp; What if a female does not want to wear one? Your gender should not determine how you demonstrate your love for someone to the world.nbsp; If a man wants to wear an engagement ring to show his love for the person he wants to marry, so be it.nbsp; It doesn't hurt anyone else for him to show his love in the way that makes him the happiest. This.

My fiance wears one. Get this. It was HIS idea. I bought it for him and he loves it. I'm not insecure and will never MAKE my FI do anything.

I don't care who judges us for it. I'm judging your dollar dances, lack of thank you note writing, gift grabby fake weddings, and throwing your own damn showers for yourself.

  • Well... I don't know if this helps, but I"m living in Brazil right now... and engaged to a Brazilian. Here' s it completely normal for when the couple gets engaged for both the fiancee and fiancé to wear the soon to be wedding band on their right hand...when they get married they both switch to the left hand.

I like the custom, but not because I want everyone to know he's engaged, but it's a symbol for him to see every day ( he likes it) as a sign of the commitment... wearing a piece of jewerly to remember someone by
