Snarky Brides

Scary Book (Nebb?)

So, I'm always intrigued by scary movies and books but I get waaaaay too scared to actually watch/ read them. Well, I was thinking, I could read a scary book on the plane because I'll be surrounded by people so I'll feel okay. So, whats a good scary book? Preferbly more like a murder mystery type NOT ghosts or demons type stuff...

I can't handle anything scary, ever. I'm a huge wimp.

Once, I tried to start reading the book "Survivor" by Chuck Palahniuk while on a plane. I didn't know what it was about-- turns out it's about a guy who crashes a plane.  I put that away quickly.

Im obviously going to suggest Stephen King. But if you dont want ghosts, maybe try out Geralds Game, The Dark Half, Liseys Story, Duma Key or The Tommyknockers. Those didnt particularly scare me that much, but theyre good!
  • I guessss I could do ghosts, as long as they're not horrible even ghosts haha

But if you want ghosts, Bag of Bones is AWESOME, so is The Shining. 1408 is pretty good too (its short though, a novella).
  • Okay, well if you recommended just 1, what would it be? Nothing that'll make me cry.

    Liseys Story
  • I'm a big fan of Mary Higgins Clark. It's mystery, usually murder mystery and you can read an entire book in 3ish hrs

  • I'm a huge, huge wimp. I'll cry. I get a false sense of safety around strangers though. Like I can watch a scary movie in a theatre but not at home. I think, I just can't have the scary in my house or where I'm sleeping.

Geralds Game messed me up for a long time. I had to check my closet and corners before turning off the light because I was so freaked out about the space cowboy. I have to check even now if I think about him after the lights are off. The shining also screwed me up the first time I read it, I was 16 though so thats a bit more understandable. I was like 24 when I read Geralds Game.
  • I can't even fvcking think about Gerald's Game, that's how scared I was. I think I might try reading The Exorcist.

I have never heard of Gerald's Game! Now I'm going to go read a plot synopsis. Let's see how scared I get from that.

I seriously can't read scary books, they ruin me for months, lol.  The Shining was my last one, years and years ago.

  • I always say this to put my scare meter in words. The episode of Boy Meets World where they're stuck in detention and the Scream guys there? Yea, that STILL scares me.

Scary books are worse than scary movies, imo. Theyre longer to get through and you have to imagine the entire thing so its more ingrained in your head and you have to experience the scary for longer than you would during a movie.

I don't know what a degloving injury is, but I have created an image of it in my head, and if I'm right, it's absolutely horrifying.

  • Mrs Jesse- Yes, I think I'd do better that way. I'd really like to reread all the Nancy Drews but they're expensive on kindle!

OMG I forgot about Nancy Drew. I was a HUGE Nancy Drew fan as a little girl and when I found out she wasn't a real person I was PISSED. I also really loved the boxcar children and all their silly mysteries, like the case of the stolen kite, or something stupid like that haha

I have almost all of the paperback Nancy Drews. I think I am only missing about 8 or so. I loved Nancy Drew.
