Add me to the Will Wheaton fan club. We actually just bought Stand by Me a few weeks ago. I just text FH telling him that I wanted to watch it tonight.

He was the main reason I watched TNG but Patrick Stewart's voice didn't hurt either.

• Yep, Duds, and the damn DJ would talk over the intro to the song and mess up the recording.

• Seriously, DJ.

It was such a victory when you ran to the radio and hit record right before the song actually started. I almost always missed a few seconds or hit the end of the tape and had to quick flip it over.
• Years ago I heard Pearl Jam and Nirvana on the classic rock station for the first time. That was a big wtf moment.

This isn't an "I feel old" but I still smirk whenever I see Mark Wahlberg trying to be all serious in a movie like the Fighter. He'll always be Marky Mark to me.

• How do kids not understand Stand By Me?! It's amazing! I lived next to a golf course and my neighborhood friends and I totally ran around like hooligans all day and night. Making forts in the woods, playing ghost in the graveyard in the middle of the night..

Damn, this thread really does make me feel old.
• Gosh I wish I could remember what those record stories were.  It's starting to make me nuts.

When I was in first grade, my BFF gave me a cassette tape of NKOTB.  I didn't really like it, lol - which I guess set me up for not caring about BSB or NSYNC in high school either.  I did, however, like my Randy Travis tape.  And I used to steal my dad's cassettes of classic 70s tunes and my mom's Beach Boys tapes.  I'd bring them down to the basement and jam while taking a shower.

...because that's where the shower was.  In the basement.

I laugh sometimes thinking about how hilarious that farmhouse was.  Omg.

<div>This made me laugh, because this was exactly how it went for me too.  I mainly did it on the rap music stations when my mom wasn't home because she hated that music.  I remember it took me FOREVER to get the "Ms. Jackson" song from Outkast.  When I did, it was a glorious moment.</div>
• You know what else makes me feel old - seeing Friends on Nick at Night.

Oh recently when I was home we were going through old pictures - and my parents used to have one of those monstrous satellite dishes in the yard, and it was in one of the pics.  I think they got rid of it when I was born, or shortly after.  Anyway my sister who is 21 was like "Omg... WHAT is THAT thing?" and she laughed her ass off when we explained it to her.

OMG I love that movie and totally agree with your sentiment. I can't stand the sequels they made to The Sandlot though.
• musu - I watch The Sandlot every 4th of July. It's a tradition.

And Rick Dees is the WORST about talking over songs. I had to quite listening to Rick Dees and the Weekly Top 40 because it drove me insane that he always talked over "Mmmbop". The bastard.
In Response to Re: Things that make you feel old :  did you guys get afraid of a white van that supposedly drove around abducting kids? Someone heard that a white van was driving around and once we would see one driving through the neighborhood, everyone would run screaming.
Posted by ZombieNates
I still call them kidnapper vans, the ones without any windows that look all creepy.

My mom was always a little paranoid because when she was a kid, her friend was abducted just down the street. I/we found out later that she was the victim of a serial killer from my hometown who was executed in '98, I believe. So we didn't really get to run around all willy-nilly.
• Friends is on Nick at nite?! Wtf the last season was barely 7 years ago.

• One thing I kinda regret about us bringing up our future kids in the city is that they won't get to run around all willy nilly.  We used to wander like... for... miles.  Lol.  It was awesome.

You ever hear about my mom's mix tape from her stalker?  lol.

I used to have a bunch of mix cds from Ben from high school.  And he made custom labels for them.  Ah sigh.

Totes jeals.

I was always into the older stuff.  One of my sisters spent a summer in Long Beach for a dance camp and had free weekends, so my aunt and uncle took her to see Steve Miller Band.  She had no idea who they were.  And I hated her for like two weeks, lol.

Yeah the sandlot is pretty epic. I say "you're killin me smalls" at least on a semi daily basis and if the person I'm talking to doesn't get it, then I get really sad. I asked my brother what the earliest Olympics that he remembers is and he said Athens 2004.

• So...I've never seen Stand by Me.

I did see the Footloose remake. Curiosity got the btter of me. It was really weird, because it was pretty much the original just set in today's time. Like, same exact words, same scenes, a total copy with very few variations. Which is strange enough for a remake, but it just felt like such a second-rate carbon copy that it was laughable.
• I haven't seen that Duds and now I just wanna read it instead of do work the rest of the day haha.

<div>I still do, too. Nothing like the taste of warm water flavored with the earthy taste of the hose material.</div><div>
</div><div>I still play in the sprinkler...my kids thinks I'm awesome.</div>
• The first Olympics I really remember was Atlanta, '96.  And I can't get it out of my head because of those gymnasts.  I watched a special on them over the weekend and was bawling my face off.  And my sisters and I all wanted to be Dominique Moceanu.  We'd just hurl ourselves all over the living room.
