[QUOTE]I, too, am nervous about this one.  The effect has been stayed until the appeals court rules, so it won't go into effect immediately.  And I would be very nervous about having it go before the current Supreme Court.  An adverse decision would stay in effect for years. On a lighter note, when my wife and I got married, I kiddingly asked my son whether he had noticed Civilization as We Know It ending.  He thought for a moment, then said, <strong>"Well, I did hear something, but I thought it was just [my brother] and [my sister] throwing pine cones at each other."</strong>

  • There aren't enough words to express my happiness about this...I can only hope my own state gets its head out of its ass.

I only wish that this was happening in my (less religious, thus presumably less opposed to it on religious grounds) country. I'm rather certain that if we had a vote, there would be more people endorsing gay marriage than there would be against it- but it's so unpopular for our major parties to approach that both stay away from it.
  • Really Sun? For some reason I thought gay marriage was legal there.

  • I just don't understand why some people are so opposed to people marrying who they love, whether it be male or female.  Does gay marriage personally hurt you?  No.  Get over it and let them be!

  • I was shocked that people got to "vote" on Prop 8. Since when do we get to vote on other people's rights. Marriage is first and foremost, legally speaking a civil contract. You have a right to enter into a contract with anyone you choose. Sex has nothing to do with it.
  • I was so happy with this decision! I hope to everything sacred that it will hold up!
    Anniversary
  • Man, you guys are so behind the times.  Come to Ontario, it's legal here!

Californians get to vote on EVERYTHING. It's SO annoying.

One guy on the radio last night was lamenting about how the judge overturned "the will of almost 7 million voters." Well, if you went to the deep South circa 1870 I bet the "will of the voters" would be to re-enslave black people, so you know, the whole democracy thing only goes so far when it ends up squashing other people's rights. It's called the tyranny of the majority.
