Thats an awesome dress for Britney Spears.  Otherwise not a favorite.  But I think Pnina has more dresses that are great vs. the crappy ones.

Yeah I totally didn't get that.  I also never tried on wedding gowns till I was engaged.  We knew for awhile that we were going to get married someday but I certainly didn't start dress shopping (it didn't stop me from day dreaming on the Knot)

I don't understand looking at and trying on dresses when you aren't engaged, my FI would have thought I was a nut-ball if i did that lol
  • Why do they showcase the slutty ones?  The ones you showed are actually nice.  I have no problem with pushing the envelope and in fact I want to look sexy on my wedding day.  It just seems like they are showcasing her most over the top gowns.

And why do they showcase her so much?  I know she has that separate little boutique in the store.  Is she a featured designer for them or something?  Pay for advertising?

From when I've priced some dresses out a lot of the dresses they show case on SYTTD are the most expensive ones.  Her dresses run from $4,000-$25,000.  Rarely do they show ones under $11,000.  I think it is a marketing strategy.  She also has a line that is a Kleinfeld exclusive so I understand them showcasing her.  She also is a desginer that is happy to appear on camera so I understand focusing on her and her designs.
  • I just hate the see thru-ones, which for some reason are the main ones featured on SYTTD.

These are from the "other" line lol

I booked the chapel about 5-6 months before DH proposed (the chapel I wanted books over 14 months out) and I definitely tried on dresses before he popped the question, I couldn't help myself! I didn't get down and dirty with the dress shopping until after the official proposal though!

See I don't mind them when they are lined in nude or a light pink.  I like them then.  I do not like them as see through.  I like the more couture look.  My dress has a corset back and my grandmother said thats slutty.  To each their own I guess.
  • I don't get trying on dresses before you're engaged either (unless you're playing dress up in HS :P) but if your BF is going with you to go dress shopping....how would you NOT already consider yourself engaged?
I mean, if T suggested he take me wedding dress shopping I'd say "is this your way of proposing?" or If I asked him to take me, well, I wouldn't unless we were engaged?

    Just does not compute.

  • Yeah I agree.  I wonder if they created this in response to criticism or comments about the lack of larger brides on SYTTD.  If so, just have more of a range on the already existing show.  When I first heard that they were doing this, I didn't realize it was set at Kleinfeld.

I'm sure it was part of it.  KLeinfelds has also stepped up advertising of its plus size selection so I think this is a very strategic and intelligent marketing ploy.  My dream would be to open a bridal salon that only carried dressed from 16-32.  I think a lot of plus size girls get stuck with the pudgey bride dress style that doesn't necessarily flatter them.  Mainly because sales consultants don't always know what flatters a plus size bride and because the bride can rarely try on the dress.  It took serious work to find the dress i wanted in a size large enough to go over my boobs.

I hate that a size 16 is considered plus-sized, and I agree with you about consultants putting larger brides in unflattering a-lines. I want to show off my curves not hide them! It's not even just consultants though cuz my family members kept telling me that a dropped waist with my hips was a bad idea, but eff 'em I look good lol
  • Wow, that's really horrible.  Did they not test market that name?!

I also don't understand why wedding dress sizes are much smaller either.  It's one of the most expensive dresses a woman will probably ever buy for a very emotional time.  You'd think the designers would want her to feel as good as possible so she'd be more likely to spend money.

It just occurred to me that when I ordered my dress they didn't tell me what size they were ordering.  Crap.  Now I'm nervous.  Maybe I should call them tomorrow and check.  If I was on the edge of two sizes I'd prefer to go up instead of down.

I don't have a picture of me in my dress (they're on a different camera) but here's the stock photo of the dress:

Edit - That came out really small, but the dress is Maggie Sottero Riviera
  • Agreed, the name is wretched, but its a cute show.
I am 100% against FI coming with. Im super traditional, I think it just takes away from the magic of the wedding day. FI would NEVER come with me to dress shop. He watches SYTTD with me sometimes so I have a good idea of what he likes in a dress. He is hilarious, he totally critiques the dresses more than I do.

obnoxious moment- God I can't wait to marry him!

REALLY?  I always admired your dress in the picture of you on the couch.  That make me so happy.
  • I know this is a day late, but if you girls read this, aprovencher, smart move.

I went to Kleinfelds because i thought they would have a bigger selection of plus sized dresses.  I am a 14 bottom, but very busty, probably a 16 dress.

This was back in May when i went, but they solicited me to be on the show, and said that they had consultants  who specialized in plus size.

Well, my consultant was super nice, but had no idea how to dress me or help me.
I wind up in tears sometimes watching the show because they seem to help everyone to such a big degree, and I didn't get that experience.  I gave them a high budget so it wasn't about price.

i felt when it came to plus size, they were clueless.

The consultant I had is never featured on the show, and certainly Randy didn't come in to save the day.

I bought my dress at RK Bridal and had an amazing experience.  Id' say thye had 100 or more plus size samples to try on.

  • And very ironic, it's Sunday morning at 9am, and I am watching SYTTD, and they have a plus size bride on a "regular" show.

  • I think it's strange that they have to dedicate a who series to big brides.  They're brides just like everyone else and should be featured on the regular show.

Aw I'm sorry you had a rough experience there.  That totally would have made me cry and want to run away.  My first shopping experience made me feel like a cow who would never find a wedding dress that didn't make me look preggers.  Everyone though an empire waist was the way to go.  Sorry, but empire on a woman with big boobs typically make her look like she's hiding a bun in the oven.  I wouldn't mind if I was pregnant.....but thats not how I want to look on my wedding day.

I think smart bridal salons would get at least one consultant that is very knowledgeable with dressing and helping plus sized brides. They'd make a windfall of money.
