Artist Poll

Hi ladies, I'm bored and have a few questions :)

And before you write off this poll with the whole "I can't draw a stick figure" act, remember that I consider almost every aspect of life art, including cooking, decorating, gardening, knitting, photoshop, yoga, etc. So if you don't do conventional art, answer the questions regarding whatever you do in your life that is creative.

1. Are you artistic?
2. Is your FI/H/S.O. artistic?
3. What kinds of art do you do?
4. What kind of art does FI/H do?
5. What kind of art have you always wanted to try?
6. Favorite Artists?
7. What inspires you artistically? What stifles you?

8. Bonus: PIP and AW your creations.

    1. Yes
    2. Yes
    3. Drawing and Painting. I paint with acrylics and I guess I do realistic drawings/paintings.
    4. I guess it would be Graphic Design
    5. Surrealist as far as type. As far as medium, oil and/or watercolor.
    6. Munch is probably the only one whose name I can remember right now.
    7. A lot of things inspire me. I guess what inspires me most is seeing other artists' work I like (I'm thinking more like local, unknown artists, rather than famous ones)
What stifles me is lack of time, I guess.

I've got a few, but they are works in progress.

  • 1. Are you artistic?
    I like to think so.
    2. Is your FI/H/S.O. artistic?
In a different way than I am. He's a fantastic writer.
    3. What kinds of art do you do?
    I paint and collage.
    4. What kind of art does FI/H do?
He writes game reviews for an online magazine, but he also just writes whatever strikes his fancy.
    5. What kind of art have you always wanted to try?
Lithography. It's ridiculously involved and requires tons of equipment, but I think it would be really neat.
    6. Favorite Artists?
El Greco. I like his skies so much.
    7. What inspires you artistically? What stifles you?
Current events, sometimes. I did a collage out of newspaper clipping when they were doing on of the stimulus packages. It says in giant newspaper letters "STIMULATE MY PACKAGE" and then has a ton of pictures and headlines and what not around that.

Or looking at other art, and finding some tiny aspect of it that I like, and expanding that one aspect. I've never felt stifled, artistically, anyway.

  • 1. Are you artistic? I have to be for my career
    2. Is your FI/H/S.O. artistic? in a way - he's a civil engineer so he has to be creative with designs sometimes lol
    3. What kinds of art do you do? Graphic design.  And since you mentioned other art forms, I love experimenting with food! ha
    4. What kind of art does FI/H do? like I said, sometimes with work.  Though he does get very artistic when creating things around the house - for example our great dane chewed up part of her crate so he created this thing to go in the bottom she can't mess up... it's art in a way lol.  And he's very musically inclined..
    5. What kind of art have you always wanted to try?  I wish I could oil paint - I've always found it beautiful
    6. Favorite Artists? I honestly don't know the name but there is an artist that travels around and comes to Jacksonville every six months or so and the work is awesome - very modern and made with unique things (like newspaper and such).
    7. What inspires you artistically? What stifles you? Hmmm I just like being able to start with a blank screen and make it into something aesthetically appealing.  And the look on happy client's faces doesn't hurt either.  It makes me feel great when I know I've created something they enjoy.
    8. Bonus: PIP and AW your creations.  Since it's a wedding board I'll AW my invites as a creation

    2. Is your FI/H/S.O. artistic? Not in the least.  Well, he sings well, does that count?
    3. What kinds of art do you do? Well, going off reddy's list, I bake, cook, knit, recreate other peoples pictures (or mine) in Inkscape and can tell which colours look nice beside each other.
    4. What kind of art does FI/H do? As per 2, singing.
    5. What kind of art have you always wanted to try? Oil painting.
    6. Favorite Artists? No specific ones.
    7. What inspires you artistically? What stifles you? colours and random things inspire, oppressive heat stiffles.

     1. Are you artistic?  A little. I'm not horrible at most things.
    2. Is your FI/H/S.O. artistic? Not at all.
    3. What kinds of art do you do? Uuhm. Music (flute for 8 years, can also play clarinet, saxophone, and a bit of piano), painting usually with whatever I can find, I make attempts at photography, I can sew fairly well, and I like to scrapbook/make cards.
    4. What kind of art does FI/H do?
    5. What kind of art have you always wanted to try? Digital. I really want to learn how to use the 3D rendering programs and Photoshop in their entirety, but it's so expensive.
    6. Favorite Artists?
    7. What inspires you artistically? What stifles you? Pretty things. I like to paint landscapes and fantasy-ish stuff. Lack of time.
    8. Bonus: PIP and AW your creations. I don't have any great pictures of anything...I really want to sit down and do another painting but it feels like I never have any time. I'll see what I can find when I get home.
  • 1. Are you artistic?   I used to be an art major once upon a time...my favorite thing to do is charcoals.  I was in choir througout HS and my first 3 years of college.
    2. Is your FI/H/S.O. artistic?  He won't admit to it but yes.  He made some awesome jewelry in HS.
    3. What kinds of art do you do?  Charcoal, oil paints, I dabble with graphic design also.  Love pottery!
    4. What kind of art does FI/H do?  Mostly jewelry, woodwork and pottery.
    5. What kind of art have you always wanted to try?  I've done a lot of different things already...photography would definitely be one though.
    6. Favorite Artists?  Musically, a ton.  Paintings: Monet
    7. What inspires you artistically? What stifles you? Anything can be inspiring.  Lack of time stifles me :(
    8. Bonus: PIP and AW your creations.  I wish I had pictures!  Maybe sometime I'll shoot some.
  • Oh I missed the bonus.

Chalk pastel on canvas. I forgot that I didn't have fixative, and I used almost an entire can of hairspray on it.

  • 1. Are you artistic? Yes.
    2. Is your FI/H/S.O. artistic? Yes.
    3. What kinds of art do you do? A little bit of everything that is two-dimensional; drawing, painting, calligraphy, stamping, collage, screen printing. I never really liked sculpture or 3-D stuff. I love henna, make-up, and decorating my house too.
    4. What kind of art does FI/H do? He is a chef, but he also carves stone and wood and got me into collage. Oh and he loves photography.
    5. What kind of art have you always wanted to try? Airbrushing. And make-up airbrushing while we're at it.
    6. Favorite Artists? Frida Kahlo, Chuck Close, M.C. Escher, Sandy Skoglund. Ooo ooo! And Andy Goldsworthy! Have you seen this guy? (clicky)
    7. What inspires you artistically? Other artists flourishing around me. Learning new things. Odd views of things I've seen over and over. Interesting graffiti around the city. Good books and poetry.  What stifles you? That whole "in a rut" feeling. But I liken my creativity to a boiling pot, so I know I always just have to wait and it will boil over eventually.
    8. Bonus: PIP and AW your creations. This was me last halloween as a zebra. (before and after hair coloring)Halloween is my favorite holiday and I always try to pick the weirdest thing I can come up with.

  • I love this poll :)

    1. Are you artistic?
I'm creative but don't consider myself artistic

    2. Is your FI/H/S.O. artistic?
    Definitely not, but that's ok

    3. What kinds of art do you do?
I used to paint and sketch but was told by my high school art teacher that my "stupid fantasy sketches" were not art so I stopped. Now my creativity goes into my crochet projects

    4. What kind of art does FI/H do?
He cooks, that's kind of artistic right?

    5. What kind of art have you always wanted to try?
Sand painting. I like tactile art and think that could be fun

    6. Favorite Artists?
Oh geez...well, not to sound stalkerish, but I've seen some pictures of Seshat's stuff (fb) and loved it, so her! :) Also there was a Buddhist monk in DC who was doing a sand mandela which was incredible, so him too.

    7. What inspires you artistically? What stifles you?
I like fantasy art and putting strange colors on normal objects. I love flowers, textures, and swirls.
I get really stifled by "realistic portrayals" and my want to make things be perfect. I can't sketch for fun anymore because it isn't professional quality, and somewhere I got it into my head that if it's not professional it's a waste of time. I know it's not, but it's taking time to really let it sink in and start again.

    8. Bonus: PIP and AW your creations.
    You asked for it!

  • 1. Are you artistic? Yeah
    2. Is your FI/H/S.O. artistic? Sometimes, maybe not with drawing, more with singing
    3. What kinds of art do you do? Pencil, watercolor,
    4. What kind of art does FI/H do? none
    5. What kind of art have you always wanted to try? metal arts like this, or jewelry

    6. Favorite Artists? local artists, http://www.chihuly.com/
    7. What inspires you artistically? What stifles you? Inspiration - things that are weird, the sunrises, and sunsets through broken clouds, making that next kind of robot, making something that is different perspective or angle to something already existing.  Stifling - things that have been overdone, monotonous, random, and repeating

    8. Bonus: PIP and AW your creations.  <-- when I get home...

  • Katie, those are awesome =)

  • 1. Are you artistic? I used to take art classes/and piano lessons when I was young. And I used to paint ceramics, which was very fun, and cross stitch. But my artistic abilities now lean to baking, decorating, and I like making projects to decorate our home.
    2. Is your FI/H/S.O. artistic? Yes, he used to paint, he loves landscape photography, and he writes quite well I must say.
    3. What kinds of art do you do? None lately, catch me when I'm baking during the holidays. Actually I'm going to start a lighting project for our gardens.
    4. What kind of art does FI/H do? Photography, and writing.
    5. What kind of art have you always wanted to try? Maybe knitting.
    6. Favorite Artists? We like to go to the Art Shows in the area. I love perusing local galleries. No one in particular.
    7. What inspires you artistically? What stifles you? Time stifles.

  • 1. Are you artistic? Yes, I think so.

    2. Is your FI/H/S.O. artistic? Depends. Would you consider being able to fix a vehicle artistic? I kinda sorta do. I've watched him work, and there's sort of an artistry to it.  Now, I don't think he could do a paint by numbers, but I know as a kid he used to make those sequins-with-pins ornaments.
    3. What kinds of art do you do? Paint (VERY abstract), Crochet, Cross Stitch, I made the wreaths for our front door, etc.
    4. What kind of art does FI/H do?  See #2

    5. What kind of art have you always wanted to try? Pottery

    6. Favorite Artists?  Monet, Van Gogh, Botticelli
    7. What inspires you artistically? What stifles you?  seeing lots of color together (like when the bluebonnets and indian paintbrushes are in bloom together in TX), when a friend is having a baby, boredom, being cooped up.
    No space to work.

    8. Bonus: PIP and AW your creations.
I thought I might find a painting in a background. I meant to scan some, but never did. Here's two things. One's an overloaded winter/Christmas wreath (pic is sideways), and one (over the back of the chair) is an afghan I crocheted.

  • I'm lovin' reading this thread!

Seshat- when you say 'sidewalk painting', do you mean like a sidewalk chalk in liquid form? do you paint it on the sidewalk or stencil it? I am swooning already, I love sidewalk chalk.

Led and Nebb- I would love to see something eventually!

Shay- I almost AW'ed my invites too! I totally realize how much work went into those and they look beautiful!

LC- I love the 'rainbow peacock feather' looking one! Very nice!

I also like reading about what kind of art the guys do...

It's a yearly Streetpainting Festival that celebrates the Madonarri. It's held at the same time as a local festival around our town hall lake and is a fundraiser for ArtHaus, a local art organization I used to volunteer for.

A bunch of artists get together for the weekend and draw on the sidewalk for fun. We use pastels, not sidewalk chalk but some special kind of pastels made for sidewalk art (they don't work on paper, I've tried). They can be mized with water once on the ground for a smoother look and to blend it in with the concrete.

Some people use stencils, other just free-hand it. I love going. At this point it's not even about the art, it's about hanging out with people I only see once a year at the SPF (streetpainging festival). The next one is this October.
  • Alright, all I can find right here is this picture of my friend I took like 3 days ago. Nothing terribly special, but I really liked it.
