Are you anemic? I know you said you don't like Mayo Clinic, but you're so lucky to be near a major medical place. The closest place I can go for the treatment I need is Salt Lake City, UT. Maybe next time I need surgery I should go to MN, there's an HHT clinic in Rochester! Haha.

I have those ridges as well and I have never had enough iron to donate blood. I'm not severely anemic, but slightly. My nails peel a lot too.

I'm not technically anemic, but I've always been borderline low.  I've been concerned about my thyroid because of fatigue and some other things, and my thyroid hormone tests just came back normal, so I guess it's probably time to get my iron checked again.  I have nail ridges and easy bruising too (though I always have).  I also don't take iron supplements because like you, they make me sick and I haven't found one yet that I like.

ETA:  To clarify on my Mayo hatred, I really, really love their medical staff when I'm there.  I've never had a bad in-person experience.  It's their follow up and phone support that makes me really, really angry.

I have the ridges, though they arent super prominent or anything. I thought it was a sign I was getting old cause I know old people have them like whoa.

I just got back from the bank, walked to and from. Walking in the snow in my big ass sorel boots is a work out in and of itself. Good christ.

Walking in the snow is a killer workout!  Especially calves. 

Older people usually get the ridges from poor diet/nutrient absorption.  At least, that's my understanding.  And dude, you're not old.

I want sorel boots. We didn't have enough snow this year to justify buying a pair, but maybe next year. And yeah, I usually get so hot walking around (working out!) in the snow that I take my coat off.

Thats one of my major issues with this winter. I spent 150$ on these things and this is only the 3rd time ive worn them. The forcast for the year said it would be lots of snow so I figured I better bite the bullet and buy them, and then we havnt had any snow.

Yup, it was a big old rumor around here that it would be a snowy winter too.  Even worse than last year (which was record breaking by the end of December).  But....not even close?

Here as well. Our summer was WAY late in 2011, so people were predicting a terrible winter in January. It was lame and mild.

Afternoon! H and I have been cleaning all morning and now he is out getting groceries. He got tired of waiting for me, but I don't care because I didn't want to go anyway.

So I posted this on FB, but last night around 1am our side screen door blew open and the dog and I thought someone was trying to break into the house. H was sleeping, but my first reaction was not to wake him up, but to grab the 9mm. H has trained me well. And I had a bowl of mashed potatoes in my hand that I never put down. I'll be damned if someone gets between me and my mashed potatoes.

H decided to do snowplowing as a sideline business this winter and of course, very little snow.  We kept hearing all fall that it was supposed to be a very snowy winter for Chicago.

I looked in the cleaning closet for my broom and dustpan and there was a brand new Swiffer WetJet!  Takes so little sometimes to make me happy

I have the ridges as well, although having a look at them now, they don't seem as noticeable as they have been in the past.

Mine too, Marrin.  I started taking Biotin a couple months ago - maybe that's helping with the ridges?  Definitely not as noticeable as they were.

Les - I've been taking my cal/mag regularly now and that's the only thing that I do differently as far as OTC stuff goes.  Before I would take the cal/mag for a few weeks and then forget about them, but I've been good about it for a few months now.  Wonder if that's the difference?
