Fingernails

If you can grow fingernails and keep them longer, do you? I can grow them so the whites are about a 16th of an inch long (that's a guess), but then they start getting in my way. I want to chop them off but H likes them longer. Where do you stand on fingernails?

Re: Fingernails

• I'm embarassed to admit that I chew my fingernails. They are a mess. I've never been able to grow long nails.

• I pick at mine. They are pretty short. It's terrible.

I grow them for special occasions, orther wise they get in the way in everyday life.

• Mine grow better in the summer, and break in the winter. And right now they're peeling for some strange reason.

I like to keep mine maybe 1/4 inch long so I can type. But not to long.

• I use to bite mine, but can't anymore. I still always keep them pretty short, either they break or I cut them. Once they grow out past the tips of my fingers I have trouble typing because my fingers slide around on the keys too much.

Mine can grow pretty long, but then they annoy me. It's hard to type on my keyboard and on my phone to send texts. I tend to cut them down to just a little white, but I have to cut them about every 2-3 weeks.

• I cut mine short often. They grow ugly, so I have to keep them short.

• Mine grow really pretty and white, but I don't like them some days. I think I'll have to chop them before the 4th though, what with all the outdoor activities and family reunioning.

• Mine are too brittle to grow. I try growing them, and they break. They're always raggedy and uneven.

• I got in the habit at massage school to keep my nails so short you couldn't see any white at the tips. I tend to maintain that to this day, although I do get more lazy about it now that I know I won't be thrown out of class for having a bit of white showing.

And betrothed, I'm disgusted with most of the comments that you have posted. I don't think I've ever read such judgmental comments in my life. I'm so lucky that the girls I speak to on theknot are nothing like you...I would've never come on here for ADVICE if I would've encountered a big a bitch as you. I genuinely feel awful for your children or your future children, and I think it would be irresponsible of YOU not to invest in their future therapy sessions starting now. • I hate them long.

Yikes, betrothed. No whtie? My white part starts down fairly low on some fingers, I think it would be painful to not have any white on any nails.

• Massage school, you say? Do you mind working out this kink in my neck?

• I grow mine about 1/8" off the tip of my finger. If I do any projects, I'll cut them down. I like them shaped, smoothed and with a clear matte polish, but that's it. Sometimes in the winter I'll get bored and do a really dark grey or purple for a couple of days, but I'm an clear polish girl most of the time.
• Mine always split when the get longer. I just keep them short.
• Does anyone do the acrylic or gel thing anymore? I'm not a fan. There's a woman who has them here at work, and she's always biting on them and then sniffing her fingers. WTF? I can't sit across from her in meetings because it turns my stomach.
• I had acrylics in high school for shows. I loved them because they always looked nice. The ladies I work with have them, but I don't do them because they're expensive and I hate going to the nail place every other week.

• I keep mine pretty long. I can't stand being able to feel things on the tips of my fingers. Right now they're 1/4" past my finger tips, I've been known to get them not quite to 1/2" though.... My mother likes to glare at me whenever they're that long, so I usually just end up cutting them back down anyways.

[QUOTE]In Response to Re: Fingernails : What? Ewwww. You're talking about acrylic nails right? I got them before and they ruined my nails. My nails were paper-thin after I got those damned things removed. It took me 6 months to have normal nails again.

This. I did it once for prom (because I thought I was cool, of course) and hated them! They were in the way all the time and I couldn't scratch an itch that was driving me bonkers!

• I keep mine short, usually no white showing. I chew my nails when they get long and they start to annoy me since I type all day long.
• No white at all. In fact, we had to clip our nails down so no white was showing but then we had to file them even shorter so you coudln't feel them at all.

• I used to bite the shiit out of my nails. I finally broke the habit.
• Mine tend to grow pretty nice but they make me crazy and I'm nervous about accidentally scratching my daughter so I keep them short. I'm torn over whether I will grow them out a little for the wedding or not.
• I keep them so they're just long enough that they feel nice when I scratch FI's back, so slightly past the tips of my fingers. Any longer than that, they hurt when I type.

• Mine are a mess and wedding in 3 weeks. Cuticles are also horrid, but I am so tense and stressed betw wedding and other personal stuff that I am picking at them and biting. The gels and acrylics are just too expensive and time consuming to maintain. For day of, I'm just going to get the fakes from Walgreens. I already did a test run with them this past week end. They looked good and they lasted the few days I needed them to and were easy to take off. They're called "kiss" something or another.
• Mine grow well, but I'm clumsy, so if they get nice and long, I find a way to break them. But I also get a manicure at least once every two weeks, so they're always polished and usually a decent length. It's dumb, but I keep them long enough to scratch FI's back, which he asks me to do before bed every night.

• Mine have terrible vertical ridges in them and they're thin, so I didn't get artifical nails for the wedding. I just made sure my cuticles were moisturized and they were polished a nice neutral color. I think my vitamin levels are off, and so's my water consumption.
I also think I got screwed the last time I had tips, 2 years ago. She pulled/peeled them off "because they were old" instead of soaking them. They've not been right since.

• I have to keep mine short for work. I'm (barely) thinking acrylics for the wedding. I'm afraid I'll fiddle with them though because I'm not used to nails. I promise not to smell them though, ew.
• I wonder what the smelling is about?

Mine are super brittle. They do grow long, but are weak and start splitting. I keep them short so that they don't grow past the tops of my fingers.

• I broke a nail really low and gross right before the wedding so I had fakes. They hurt the whole first night while my nail beds freaked out in pain. After that they took almost 4 months to grow back to normal.
