I just got blasted on my TB board yesterday, too. For telling someone that if they can't afford a vet visit, they shouldn't own pets.

All of it. ;) The calling her a biitch and saying she might not be ready for kids. ha

OP, if anyone is interested:

ETA: I should mention that this is a huge pet peeve (ha) of mine. The idea that pets are 'just' animals. I mean, they are, and I would never think it's the same as a kid. BUT you adopted them, ffs, take care of them.  It's a sensitive subject for me, too, because Levi didn't have that. When we got him at 7-8 months, he had never been to the vet (other than the ER after he was literally beaten up.) No vaccinations, nothing. and he was an outdoor dog mostly.

I was also rolling my eyes in that thread about the talk surrounding ZOMG NEVER LET YOUR CAT OUTSIDE.  Fucking hell.

• I HATE people who ignore the importance of actually CARING for cats. I know a lot of people who think cats are somehow magically different than dogs and don't deserve vet care.

On the lines of cats- funny cat story. This morning H's alarm was going off and I rolled over and told him to shut if off (it goes off with a silly song). I warned him that our cat was standing there hovering so watch out. In his sleepy state he ignored the warning, rolled right onto her and she went flying off the bed. The sound of her going flying woke him up. She's fine. She just managed to put a hole in our new sheets in her struggle to catch herself. Poor fluff ball.

not at all. There is a (very real) danger to coming in contact with cat poop. IF they are outdoor cats and there's a chance they've eaten mice.  Something toxic in the actual mice.

Another one of those pregnancy things that is super rare but people hone in on as a DANGER DANGER. ;) (Like lunch meat.)

• Yeah, they f*cked up TN boards.  My happy black ass is over on Proboards with the rest of the folks and it runs so much better.  They should hire whoever runs IT at that company instead of the third party vendor.  Who I'm assuming is staffed soley with drunk, half-functioning fuckmonkeys.

I have ZERO idea about what pregnant women can/can not do.  Aside from the obvious, no crack, drinking, smoking, etc..

That part was pretty absurd. I wouldn't have an outdoor cat, but that's because my best friend's cat was just hit by a car and will now have to make due with 3 legs. And one of her childhood cats was also hit and killed. I know that doesn't happen to every cat, or even the majority, but it's a risk I wouldn't take. To suggest there's something wrong with people who keep their cats indoors was a little nutso.

• See and I see no problem letting cats out, lol.  But, I'm a farm girl and we had like 20-30 feral inbred cats when I was growing up.
panther
• LOL that is funny koda, but for real, it can happen.  A bat got into my farmhouse - it was before I was born.  It was in my parents bedroom and my mom noticed it just hanging out on the wall as she was laying in bed before my dad was going to shut the lights out.  And mice and rats of course can get into houses, and Lord knows all the diseases those little fuckbags can carry.
She shouldn't let her cats outside if she's never going to bring them to the vet. I bet they're not even vaccinated. What if a rabid bat flies through the window and bites them? Huh, what then?  No really, my vet used this as a reason why I should vaccinate my indoor only cat against rabies. I didn't need to be urged I was going to vaccinate anyway. But really? Rabid breaking and entering bats?
Posted by kodakitty
I'll be honest. If a rabid bat flew into my house, my cat wouldn't be my first concern.
• I can see her point about finances unexpectedly taking a hit. My savings account was wiped out because of Whisky's medicine, visits, and biopsies. But I'd never give him up and I'd be pissed the fvck off if someone tried to chastize me for having a pet with little money.

That being said, if I had no money to begin with, then getting a pet would be the stupidest thing ever and I'd expect to be admonished for it. I am a big advocate for always vaccinating too. You never know what could happen.
• You guys ever see that show Infested?  The ones where bats infest the house creep the shiit out of me.  And usually they tell the homeowners some shiit like "Oh, we're sorry, this is a protected species of bat and your house is its habitat.  There is nothing we can do, they have to stay."  For real?  I would LEGIT roll some heads if someone ever said that to me.  Fucking bats in my house, they are LEAVING, I don't give a gnarly fuuck if they're special bats.
panther
• true facts KODA, we would get one or two a year in my old house, used to scare the crap out of me, darn winged flying creatures.  After the Xleft (and it was just me and the kids), I had to man up.   We had a cat who loved to catch them if they got in.  She would sit on the counter and you knew one was in the house by the way her head was circling.  The vet would give her extra rabies shots just because of her antics.

Glad those days are behind me.
