Good morning!

Anyone around yet?  What do you have going on today?

Star, if you're around - does your foot feel any better?

I'm about to pour some coffee and look for job postings online.  Fun times.

Re: Good morning!

  • Good morning! I am going in to work a bit later than usual today. Thursday is when the docs I work with have afternoon clinic. There are a lot of patients coming who are eligible for studies I work on so I'll probably get stuck there late.

My cat was driving me crazy this morning. Our kitchen has very little floor space and she insists in  laying in the middle of the floor whenever I am in there. I have to shuffle my feet when I walk to avoid stepping on her.

  • Celtic, if you're allowed to/comfortable saying, what type of studies do you do?

My dog does that, too.  She likes to lay down right by my feet where I'm standing.  But she's small and I'm deaf, so I don't always see/hear her and sometimes trip on her. Silly doggie.
    image
  • I do pediatric kidney disease research. I'm the study coordinator so I do the screening and recruitment and facilitate all the study visits.

Our dog never moves from the couch so it's not an issue with him. Laying on a floor is a foreign concept to Moose.

  • Morning. I'm looking forward to my lunch already, a delicious salad.

So, yesterday I got an email from a small-scale publisher who helps independent authors get their books self-published. It's through the company I'm with now, but this guy gets some pretty good deals and handles editing and cover art for free, and sets up online stores. I'm trying to decide if it's worth it.

Right now, i'm thinking that I'll continue to do all the books in my current series and the one I want released in a few months (this guy takes at least 6 months to do everything). BUT, I have been thinking about re-releasing my very first series (6 books total, but I only published the first 2) since I want to revise/tweak them. So it might be really beneficial to do that entire series through him. Decisions, decisions.
  • Oh wow, that sounds like an awesome job! So do you have a PhD, then?

Lucy is a weirdo.  She's the first dog I've ever had that will lay down on ANY surface and be perfectly content.  The dog I had before (who died a few years ago) wouldn't even sit on hardwood/any hard surface, let alone lay down on it.  If we took a treat in the kitchen and told her to sit, she would walk over to the carpeted family room first, ha.

  • Morning!

I forgot my coffee on my bedside table this morning as I was running for the train.  Bummer.  I can do without coffee but today... not so much.  When I got near work I went to Dunkin Donuts.  I usually don't buy coffee because it always bothers my stomach and I just make a flavored Kcup at home (black) with a little sugar because it's "healthier" and when I can control what's in it my stomach is ok.

So I asked for a small hot caramel with a little extra sugar.  He said "caramel swirl black?"  Sure... I figured I had just said it wrong since I'm not one of the Dunkin regs. Well holy crapola.  That was not black and I think the swirl alone has enough sugar to keep a classroom full of tots on super high energy all day.  THEN add my "extra" sugar and wham bam... forget the filling I had yesterday because I'm pretty sure every tooth will need one now.  Lesson learned.
  • Sesh I have no idea how this stuff works in your industry but can you ask the guy for references or talk with people you know who have worked with him to see what they think about him?
    image
  • LP, I'm not worried about him scamming me or anything. I've read his contract and I've met him in person (and I'm very familiar with his publishing platform). I'm going to check out the books he's done in the past this week. The ones I saw on his website when skimming it have beautiful covers though.

</div><div>Oh no! It's crazy how many different kinds of coffee there are at coffee shops today, and how many words it takes to order what you want.  You would think "caramel coffee" would be simple enough that they would give you just that, but of course they have to complicate everything with fancy/confusing names.
    </div><div>
</div><div>Also, just a PSA if you have a Kohl's near you - I've always found that they have the cheapest K-cups.  They are often on sale, plus they have 15-30% off everything coupons in their ads all the time.  They have a pretty good selection too, or at least the one near me does. </div>

  • Sesh I just peeked at your blog and the pow pow looks really cool!
    image
  • LP, that's good to know.  I'm still working off all of the ones I got from Christmas but now I'm running low.  I'll have to check out Kohls!

I told FI what happened and he confirmed that a "caramel swirl" is definitely sugar packed on it's own.  My stomach already hates me for it.  Unless it's black coffee with a little sugar my stomach goes on a rampage.  Good thing I don't have a meeting until this afternoon, because that would not work right now....
  • Good morning. I was off  work the last two days and accomplished very little. I did have an interview at a Hair Clinic, which I think went very well.

On my way in to work this morning there was a turkey sitting in the middle of the two inbound lanes of a major artery into the city. I don't know how he made it that far, but he looked totally freaked out and just squatted down trying to stay safe. I wanted to stop and help him off the road but there was nowhere to park. I hope someone saves him. The jerks at the bus stop across the street were just pointing and laughing instead of helping. He was holding up traffic something crazy.

  • Wild turkeys freak me out.  They are everywhere around here.  One scared the crap out of me a couple months ago, I was putting DB out and the thing busted in the yard out of nowhere.  DB wanted to go after it (all 8 lbs of her) and I was terrified it was going to chase us.  I ran back into the house so fast.  They also like to hang out by the train tracks around here so I'm convinced that they are badasses.

<div>Awww poor turkey :( I hope he made it off the road safely!</div><div>
</div><div>When I lived in Ohio, there were tons of geese.  Every once in awhile they would cross a major road near the on ramp for !-75 in a huge flock.  Sometimes they would just sit down in the middle of the road and refuse to move, so traffic would be way backed up.  </div>

So you guys know how much I love sales guy? For 2 months he did frigging diddly so I had nothing to do and now that he is leaving he is flooding me with orders before he is done, so much so I can't even start training for my new tasks. Guy fucking sent me 8 orders yesterday and its such a waste of my time. BUT!!! The buttload of money we put on the credit card the other day should clear today so I can buy my freaking osheaga tickets!!! Zomfgfreakout!!! July and august are gonna be UNREAL!
  • That's frustrating Nebb.  It seems like there's no middle ground, you're either swamped with stupid tasks or waiting around for people to get their ish together.  How much training do you have to do before he leaves?

    Hey guys!

LP- thank you for asking! I am finally back at work today. I spent the last two days basically lying on the couch dozing with Gossip Girl on (seriously why do I watch that?!). My foot is already pulsing from being walked on but it's still a massive improvement. However, I clearly pissed the universe off because I also have a killer cold!

Nebb- H and I are thinking of taking our second anniversary trip to go to Osheaga! We haven't decided.... but we both love so many of the bands playing!

  • Morning!

My car is in the shop getting the engine thermostat replaced, and the Audi dealership gave me the most badass loaner car. It's awesome, it doesn't even have a key. You just slide the fob into this little slot and push start it. It reminds me of Baby Mama when Amy Poehler calls Tina Fey's car a "stupid space car".

Not much going on today, just work and then picking up my car. I'm so ready for this week to be over.

  • When we were driving back from Florida there was a dog standing on the very wide median on 95. I was driving and wanted to stop and try and get it. FH wouldn't let me since he thought we would probably either get ourselves or the dog killed. Traffic was heavy and we were doing over 80. We also had our dog in the car so it's not like we could have just stuck this other strange dog back there with him.

I still think about that dog a lot. I hope it made it to the other side ok.

I'm not sure but the person who I'm taking the new tasks over from has asked me like 9 times if I want to come help her and learn what to do and I have to say no and I am worried it looks like I'm brushing it off. I seriously hate sales guy. I heard him telling the owner yesterday that he thinks I should have his emails and calls forwarded to me so I can take care of customers. I don't fucking think so, that's why I turned down that position asshat, and I have other things to do. He has this assumption I don't do anything.
  • Morning!  I'm already having a rough day-- I just called and fired someone at 9:00.  That might be a record for the earliest in the morning I've ever fired someone.  It never ceases to amaze me how much people will lie about certain things and think they're going to get away with it.

I'm sure this will be a super fun day.

  • Star, sometimes bad TV is just the best thing in the world :)  I'm glad you're seeing improvement!  And I hope your cold goes away quickly, that's no fun at all.

  • definitely! We were hoping to take a trip for our anniversary (july 31) and that would line up nicely. Neither of us has ever been to Montreal (well I went at like age 5 which doesn't really count since I don't remember it). We were thinking we could go for 5-6 days and see Montreal and then enjoy the festival. We are just trying to work it into our budget.

  • Smash, that's crazy!  What a start to that persons day lol.

Nebb, I would be so frustrated.  Who is he to dictate what you should/shouldn't be working on etc.  He isn't the boss.  Overly-entitled CWs are a PITA.  Hopefully everyone will understand that he's swamping you with all of this stuff.  I highly doubt it will reflect poorly on you that you haven't been able to do some of the training stuff since you are doing a crapload of stuff!
  • Thanks LP- I am definitely dealing with some serious bad karma lately. Thankfully, I am aware it could have been a LOT worse.

I've never been to montreal either! We ended up getting a vacation rental instead of booking a hotel. I figure with how long everyday we will be out at the concert, we don't need special amenities or anything.
  • Edie, when I woke up this am I thought to myself "TGIF!"  and that immediately turned into a "WTF it's only Thursday."  I hate when I think it's later than it is.

<div>Awww :( I hope the dog found it's way home, or someone was able to help him.  I have a huge soft spot for animals.  When we were in Vegas last year, we saw a one legged duck hopping around.  He seemed to be getting around ok, but I felt so bad for him.  I (only semi-seriously) tried to convince H to help me figure out a way to get it to a vet or something, but it was a no go.  I had a dream when we got back home that the duck got a prosthetic leg and I woke up so happy.  H thinks I'm nuts.  He's probably right :-P</div>
