Skyping

I have Skype but I barely use it. I fidget and doodle if I'm on the phone with anyone because I have a really short attention span.
Z has recently discovered Skype and loves it, and is constantly asking her mom if she can call us on it.
I like Skyping when it comes to the holidays, or seeing a loved one who is LD. I don't get skyping over calling when you are just going to talk to the person though. I don't see the fun in staring at someone staring back at me, or watching them look at the tv, computer, whatever.

Am I crazy? How do you feel about Skype?

Re: Skyping

  • you can skype without video. Ive used it to chat with knotties before - LD from canada to the states is just too much for me.
  • I only do it so my parents and inlaws can see Emma.

  • I have it...the person I use it the most with is my ex-roommate who lives about 10 minutes away...
  • Yeah we only used it when DH's daughter and her husband were living in Ireland. Once they moved back we havent used it since.

  • I love Skype! But I was in an LDR for four years, so FI and I used it for making funny faces at each other, sharing the occasional virtual candlelight dinner, and more recently, keeping in contact while I was in Italy. It seems weird to use it with anyone who you can call for free in the US though if they're not your romantic partner. I've never used it to talk to anyone except FI.

  • I don't Skype, but Ive had to use it for my Distance Ed classes before.  Also, FI bought his fam a webcam so they can Skype--it helps him feel closer to them.  I prefer the phone for regular stuff, though.

  • Ok so I'm not totally crazy then. We all have free long distance on our phones, and they live an hour away so we see them several times a month.

  • i have skype and have only used it 3 or 4 times...  we use it to say hello to my ex husband's family in colombia.

my SO downloaded it with the intention of using it since we're in different countries but we've never used it.

  • I'm late to this but I am so dependant on Skype!

There is no such thing as free long distance down here, so even if I'm calling a place 20 minutes away, Skype it is! (for $24 a month I get unlimited calls to land lines).  International LD to cell phones is ridiculous, so I used to use it in France to call my friend down the street who had a UK number.  H and I literally dated via Skype.  We use it to call the IL's and the kids on the other side of the country.  Heck, I even use it to IM with knotties that are in different counties.

  • We use Skype chat almost every weekday while at work, but I've only used the video calling whenever BF or I are traveling without the other (e.g. for work). It's great when one of us is on the other side of the world.

Love it; but then again FI is now back to England while I wait here for my fiancee visa to be approved.

This is the first time in a year that we've been separated. We're reliving the XLDR right now. It's exactly as amazing as it sounds. ::cough:: At least I get to see him everyday, as we do use the video calling.

    That is adorable.

I've never Skyped! I'm always really behind on technology. It's embarrassing.

  • I've never used it but my FI used it a couple of times to talk to his friend when his friend moved to Korea for a year. I don't see any other reason for it.
