My version of the story (which gets fuzzier every day) Basically she was stupid and young and bought a boxmation puppy from a store because she didn't know better. She came on talking about her new puppy and got ripped to shreds on E about how irresponsible she was for buying from a store instead of a rescue. She said she was sorry and continued getting ripped to shreds. The puppy got really sick a few weeks later and people were all "Haha, we told you, take that!" and she left the board.
I always felt sorry for her about the dog thing, because it's not like she could take it back and pretend it never happened.
I don't know, I just feel like the recent breeding vs adoption thing is going that direction and it worries me.
Don't dalmations have a lot of health problems anyway? I think I started posting about the time that went down. I honestly feel bad for dogs in stores too. They already exist, and they need homes as well. I'm not really in to the designer dog trend though.
My favorite day at PetSmart, we were grooming a poodle who happened to have dalmation spots and a customer walked in and goes "Is that a poomation!" The groomer, completely serious, goes "No, a Dalmoodle" and she runs out going "Omg I saw a Dalmoodle!" The owner of the poodle walked back in and was like "Dalmoodle huh?" and started laughing hysterically.

We took a domesticated rabbit that I found wandering our neighborhood to our local shelter (they actually adopt them out - who knew?), and I had to leave the room we were waiting in with all these pet owners surrendering their pets. Logically, I knew that the animals were better off not being neglected, etc., but to see how sad this one collie was when his owner left him behind, and to hear him cry ... I just couldn't be there. It still makes me tear up.
My Oz is from a breeder, but I've had shelter dogs and cats before, and I'll probably have them again.
Go do a search for "small pet" on PetFinder. Last time I did I got 8,000 guinea pigs, 150 ferrets, 90 hamsters and 50 rats in the DC area alone. Poor little rescue mini animals.
One of my friends got his iguana from a shelter. He was pulling up in the parking lot to go look for one, and saw a guy with a little girl just sobbing as the guy took a full grown and tame iguana out of his SUV. He asked the guy if he was giving up the iguana or taking it home and the guy said giving up. They put him right into my friends truck and he sends the little girl Christmas cards with the iguanas picture until she says she's bored with them.
I volunteered at a shelter for about 6 months in college. Then I started telling myself that I could fit 6 cats in my college apt and had to quit because it got too hard on my emotions

Katie - you're forgetting the key part to the snowsweetie story. She came to E BEFORE she bought the dog, talking about this puppy that she saw at the store. She was advised against buying it, educated about puppy mills, told about reputable breeders, and given resources to look into rescues. After all of that, she THEN went back to the store, bought the dog, and came back with some BS story about how she "looked into" the breeder, and he/she was reputable.
That was when she lost the little respect that she had around these parts. Now she's pregnant. Ugh.

That's disturbing on many levels. I hope the mom was the lab. Geez.
We were at the shelter the other day to look for dogs for the program (saved 1 lab!). No lie, there was a basset hound / rottweiler mix. The thing was HUGE. It must have been 100+ lbs. Huge rottie head, big rottie body, black/brown rottie coloring, with short basset legs and the long basset body. I felt so, so bad for it.
One of my friends rescued a German Shepherd/Corgi. Basically picture a German Shepherd with little Corgi legs. Peanut is the cutest freaking thing I've ever seen though. She also confuses people a lot because when she's laying down you can't see her short little legs, so people are terrified of her thinking she's all GS. Then she stands up and you just "awww"

Katie - my dog is a GS / basset mix. It's the same thing. He's a 75 lb GS, until he stands up. He has the short front legs of a basset, and his feet turn away from each other at 90 degree angles. He walks like a penguin.

I've always wanted to know exactly what Baxter is--they guess dach/beagle, which you can definitely see in his body and features. Banfield does the genetic test, but I don't know what exactly goes into it and I hate putting him through unnecessary procedures.

Our family dog is Soot. When we picked Soot out at the shelter they told us he was a beagle/small lab mix. Liars. He is a rott/lab/dalmatian mix. He's adorable but clearly there is no beagle in this dog. Also, he has major issues stemming from abuse that they didn't really warn us about. We love him dearly but he's been a challenge. He's now 16 years old.
Same here. He was definitely abused and, if I'm remembering correctly, they found him wandering in Newark. The smallest things scare him and make him flinch. But he's also gentle and sweet. I know that he makes it difficult for us to travel and just pick up and go, but he is so worth it.
