Re: Good Morning?

  • Morning! I am off today and I am going with my dad up to the house to get some cleaning done. My mom and dad are going to help me tomorrow. H is going to stain the floors on Sunday so he can start painting during the week. We hope to move everything and the dogs in by the 12th. I am so ready to be out of here. That is the extent of my weekend.

  • Morning. I am here getting ready for work. I have to have hard conversations when I get there and that won't be fun. I am not sure how I'm feeling about our football trip this weekend either!
  • Morning. Not much planned for the weekend. I might go to Hobby Lobby to look for something, and we might go to the cabin again Saturday night, depending on the weather. Mostly I just want to read.

So, H and I were talking about the Olympics last night and H said he wanted to swim one of the races. The conversation went a little like this:
Me: Which race would you swim?
    H: The freestyle.
    Me: Why freestyle?
H: So I could swim any way I wanted to.
Me...Um, I don't think freestyle means what you think it means.
H: Sure it does. It means I can pick the stroke.

Haha, no. Poor guy had a revelation last night when I corrected him.
  • Morning! I went to dinner and a movie with a new friend of mine last night. She's going through a divorce, so we went for sushi and to see Magic Mike. It was fun, and a welcome distraction for both of us. Oh, and those boots I ordered from UrbanOG (I posted about them last week) came in yesterday, and they're awesome. I was afraid they wouldn't fit or would be crappy quality, but they fit just right and feel pretty durable, so I know they'll be good for Fall/Winter.

Tonight I think I'll lay low and watch the Olympics or a movie On Demand since H is still out of town for work. My Holter monitor for my heart is supposed to arrive this evening.

I'm still debating on whether or not I want to do the 5K tomorrow. I'm not supposed to shower with the heart monitor, and since the race is at 8:30am tomorrow morning, I don't want to have to wait around for 8 hours afterward to shower. Ew.

Sometimes it's nice when he says stuff like that because it makes me feel better about being clueless on other things. Like, he loves music and I know next to nothing about popular bands so he teases me about being out of the loop. So now I got to tease him.

<div>I thought it was this too, but that everyone chose the front stroke since it is the fastest.  <img src="http://cdn.cl9.vanillaforums.com/downloaded/ver1.0/content/scripts/tinymce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-embarassed.gif" border="0" alt="Embarassed" title="Embarassed" /></div>

  • Yeah, it's the front stroke. Or as I explained it to H, the backstroke upside down. I asked him what he thought that stroke was called and he said, "swimming."
  • Morning guys!

I'm going on week 3 of this cold so I think I'm going to head to the doctor again. There has to be a solution! I haven't had a good night's sleep in so long.

Freestyle is basically anything you want unless you're in a medley relay and then the freestyle person can't choose butterfly, back, or breast.

If that's true then why do they have individual races called the free, and only do freestyle?

Crap, if I'm wrong I'm not telling H.

  • Haha, now I'm confused. It's weird, because when I was in swimming, freestyle meant you only did the front stroke (or crawl, as our coach called it, which is odd because it's not a crawl at all). If you said "free" it meant only 1 stroke.

I'm still not telling H. I'll let him continue to think I was right (he'll forget about it by tomorrow anyway).
  • Morning!

Hike, sorry you're still so sick. I'd go in! I had a 'cold' for a few weeks last month; when I finally went in, I actually had a sinus infection. A few days of antibiotics and I was so much better. Hope you feel better soon!

I also had no idea what the 'freestyle' was. Too bad my coworker is gone today, or I'd ask her. (She swam in college.)

H has an interview today!! So send us some good luck vibes? :) It'd be a really good job for him, and godknows he needs the ego boost of a good interview. (The job search sucks right now.)  Other than that, nothing too exciting. I'm going to bum around this weekend.

  • Good Morning!  My entire weekend is food based.  It's wonderful.

I'm off shortly for breakfast with my dad.  There is a place in town that does GF breakfast freally well and I'm dying for some good old continental crepes.

Tonight we're hitting up the local mongolian grill because it's shrimp night and I've got a hankering.

Tomorrow is the first day of the fair!  So we'll be heading out for my foot long corn dog, assorted deep fried treats, and to check out the exhibits.
  • Wow, steph. You only have a month to go? Geez it seems like just the other month you were announcing.

And this!  That went by really fast!
  • It always amazes me how they breathe when they're swimming. I noticed Ryan Lochte comes up for air every two strokes when he does freestyle (not always, but most of the time). I wonder if that helps him keep up with Michael Phelps. It also amazes me that they can do 400m without stopping, with an average of 25 seconds per meter. I do 50m in like twice that long, and am gasping for breathe by the end of it lol.

  • Good vibes to your H steph!

Yeah color me confused, I thought freestyle was anything you wanted, people just chose front stroke because it's the fastest.

I'm having some breakfast and getting ready to head out.  Apparently black isn't "in" for funerals anyore.  I'd still feel funny wearing a bright/happy dress, so I'm trying to figure out what to wear.
  • This is what I found when I looked it up:

Freestyle is an unregulated swimming style used in swimming competitions according to the rules of FINA. The front crawl stroke is almost universally used during a freestyle race, as this style is generally the fastest.[1] As such the term freestyle is often used as a synonym for the front crawl.

  • Morning ladies!

I leave work at 2 today, have to stop at the store to get Tobie some treats for while were gone. Than home to get the rest of my stuff packed up. I'm pretty much done except for my toiletries.

Than on the road we head, we should make Beckely,WV by 10pm, than up Saturday to finish the drive to Columbia. Should be a good week!

  • I got into a debate with my H about the Olympics fanfare/music. For some reason, the first few notes sound like "O, Canada" to me (don't hate me, Canadian friends), and my H was like "No, that's the British national anthem, since the Olympics are in London this year". I said "No, they play that fanfare music every Summer Olympics, that's why it has always has confused me, ever since I was a kid". He still maintained that it was "God Save The Queen", but that sounds like "My Country, Tis Of Thee" (or vice versa, since I think God Save The Queen is older, right?). Anyway, needless to say, it wasn't worth the battle to me, so I'll just continue to let him think he's right, even though I know he's wrong.

  • Thanks guys :) And yes, HOLYCRAP it's only a month away. schit.
Thankfully H has a job now, so this interview isn't do-or-die or anything. But he's completely miserable at his current job, and this would be an awesome opportunity. It would probably require a paycut, which worries me, but in the long run it's a good place to be.

Chels- I'd still wear black, personally.  Maybe some color with it, but I don't know if I could wear something all bright for a funeral.

I found a dress that has dark red and dark blue flowers on it with a grayish background. I'll wear that with a black sweater and black flats I think.
  • So I'm a loser and I wikipediaed it

"Competitors in freestyle swimming can use any of the unregulated strokes such as front crawldog paddlesidestroke, etc. Stand-alone freestyle events can also be swum using one of the officially regulated strokes (breaststroke, butterfly, and backstroke)."

And they choose the front crawl or whatever because it is fastest.
