Happy Friday!

Re: Happy Friday!

  • Hike, your weekend sounds positiviely awesome, enjoy!

I'm doing diddly squat for Mother's day. My H is going to visit is mom but I'll be at work. I should probably send my mom a card or something, but I just got her a Kindle for wedding thank you/birthday so I'm going to piggy back Mother's Day onto that. Come to think of it, I really should send her a card.

[QUOTE]In Response to Re:Happy Friday! : Yeah, I think it would have been almost TWO HUNDRED DOLLARS.  FOR FLOWERS.  I just can't justify that.  It was $70 for Tuesday.  That I can live with.

Really? I just ordered H's mom flowers online and it was $4.99 to deliver tomorrow.

  • Nevermind, It was $4.99 on top of $12.99 the standard rate. Ugh. What a rip off.

I'm taking my mom to that candle shop tomorrow and to a nursery to buy plants. I got her a gift certificate for a jamaican restaurant too so I might take her there as well. I also got her a card. I was looking at the few "from daughter and son in law" cards, but they were all freaking weird.
  • We decided to travel to FI's hometown to surprise his mom for mothers day.  We went ahead and told her to give her some notice since we typically stay with them and she was over the moon.  This would have been the first mothers day that he wasn't home for so it made her feel really good that we decided to travel.  My Stepmom is partially hosting my shower tomorrow so I'll give her flowers and a card when I see her.  My mom *might* get a text message.  I don't have a relationship with her.

  • The SodaStream is awesome. I need to refill my cabonation thing though.

I'm not sure what we're doing Sunday. We will probably be leaving my mom's super early since H has to work, so we'll probably just give her her gift and leave. My brother is there though so they can go out to eat. If we stay, we'll all go out to breakfast or lunch. I'm excited to give her the gift.
  • Morning Ladies!

mehg- my dogs can be a handful but it sounds like the dogs you are sitting for should have been boarded or watched by a professional dog sitter.  That is a lot to ask a friend to do!

No Mothers day plans for us; both my Mom and FMIL live on other states.  My Mom already has her gift (the sibs and I all pitched in and got her a Kindle Fire) and I sent my FMIL a card.  Get this, FI was mad a me for sending her a card because he then felt obligated to send her one.  He was just going to call her and be done with it!  I tell you, if he thinks that little effort is going to fly with me when I pop out a couple of his kids, he is very very wrong.

  • Nebb, I bet your mom will enjoy her time with you.

My mom is in Colorado, so I won't see her until just before the wedding, 54 days (yikers!).  I sent her a card and a gift card, she loves to shop and buy "stuff" so she will be in her glory.  I am spending mother's day weekend in my hometown (in Northeast PA) with my kids visiting my extended family.  I have missed them so since I moved.

jenna, my daughter's 21's birthday is Sunday and she has to work 10-5 pm so no big plans, she will stay with me in a hotel this weekend in our hometown, in between working her shifts.  She asked if we could go for a drink Sunday night since she will finally be legal.

    Morning!

We had originally planned on going to IL to surprise my grandma for mothers day, but my mom found out that one of her aunts that she hasn't seen in many years is going to be there at the end of May.  So we're going then instead, apparently.

So now, I'm thinking I will cook brunch for my mom.  I need to go pick up a gift card to a spa for her.  I ordered flowers from 1800flowers.com to be delivered to MIL tomorrow since it was free delivery then, and like $18 delivery fee or something ridiculous on Sunday.

  • Morning.  I'm ready for lunch now.  I think it's too early.

Our neighbors have two dogs that are almost exclusively off-leash.  They're usually pretty good about staying in their own yard, and not bothering people, but I think one of them has it out for Emma.  Twice now we've gotten reports from the dog walker that the neighbor dog came out and "attacked" our dog, and that the neighbors were slow to respond.  We don't really know these neighbors, and we're the "new" people on the block (we've been here 9 months, but everyone else has lived there for years) so we don't want to start a riff, but something's going to have to change.  I don't know how to approach the neighbors. :(

I think it depends on which model you get, and I don't know the difference between the models. Mine lasted forever, like from Christmas to the beginning of March, and I made a lot of drinks.

I think my refill will be around $25. It's cheaper if you bring in the carbonation thing to an authorized dealer (they list them on their site - even if the place sells the SS, they might not be an authorized dealer for the carbonation canisters) and swap them out for a new one.

Sounds like a very nice birthday. I turned 21 on a Monday (or a Tuesday?) and my friends took me out at midnight the second I turned 21. Noone else was drinking because it was a school night and I ended up so sick I never actually left my house on my actual birthday, other than to get a sandwich and some Gatorade. I had a pretty stellar 21st birthday week, though.

P&R cause I need to go get ready, but Pirate, I would definitely say something.  It is not ok if their dog is attacking Emma.  I wonder though, have Emma and their dog ever formally "met"?  Maybe if the dog has a chance to sniff her and check her out (with owner supervision), he would calm down?  Just a thought.

But either way, I would say something.  It doesn't have to be accusatory, but you could just say that you are concerned for both dogs due to neighbors report or some potentially aggressive behavior and see if they have any suggestions on how to avert to situation before it escalates.

[QUOTE]I'm the asswhole daughter.  When I told my mom that I couldn't do brunch b/c my IL's were in town but we'd drop by for a visit after they left, she responded with 'Don't worry about it.  Your brother is doing something for me and then we're going to a graduation party.'  Mmmkay.  Thanks, then.  We'll be on the golf course.

I love it when parents are passive aggressive. (sarcasm)
My dad does it to me ALL the time now that I made him promise to stop pestering me about how much time we spend with him vs FI's family.
  • That's great info, thanks. I saw something where the refill cartridges were $80 or something which seemed crazy.

  • No, LP, they haven't really "met".  And I think that's probably part of the problem.  I think this dog is kind of skittish around new people/dogs, and it becomes aggressive.

  • I left a card with a GC in it for my mom when we were there for her birthday.  This weekend will be trying to recover from the cold that my H so sweetly shared with me.  Damnit.  I've been coughing my fool head off and have a killer headache now.  I have to hold the sides of my head when I cough or else it feels like my head will explode.  Damn...
  • Morning!

We are having my mom's bday/mother's day celebration tonight since she works on sunday. I'm making a no-bake strawberry cheesecake. yumm!

My graduation is tomorrow! I can't believe I've already made it through 4 years of undergrad. I'm attempting to make the pink lemonade cake from this month's issue of bh and g to share with our families tomorrow afterward.

Oh feel better BK!! I know what kind of cough that is, and that's the pits. Hopefully you can get some rest this weekend.

    ETA: and Happy Graduation, Sere!!

  • Happy Graduation Sere!!
  • My son mentioned getting together on Mother's Day, but something has always come up on previous MDs.  H will take me to breakfast tho.  My brother sent our mom flowers from all of us and I sent her a Panera CG since she and her friends like to meet there one morning a week for coffee and sweets.

Sick cat is exceptionally clingy today.  Luckily, he has remained hydrated on his own so there's been no need for subcu fluids.  We were at vet last Sat. for fluids (no, ladies I was unable to do it at home despite all your good suggestions) and he started bleeding from mouth and nose so vet came in and administered epi and things went BSC from that point on.  So no more - we have pain meds if Bo needs them, and our goal is to keep him comfortable and loved.  No more trauma.
  • I'm still catching up on the first page  but do you think you could take the dogs running with you, Mehg?  I like to take Lucy sometimes.  You know, two birds :) Also if it's too hot or too cold to go on a longer walk, we'll just play with her in the house.  If she runs up and down the stairs after toys long enough she tires out.

  • Congrats Sere!

Today is H's 50th, so tonight he wants sushi for dinner. I've already taken care of the Mom's in our families. So that's done, I've learned to expect nothing from my son, I dont think he knows what a calendar looks like. I guess when you're 21 you dont think past your nose!

Hope all you momma's have a great day!

Ps, you guys, you should have taken advantage of ProFlowers.com for Mother's Day.  I can send my mom a huge ass bouquet of flowers for like 35 bucks.  They also deliver to my parent's house, which is in the middle of bumfuck nowhere.  So they rule.

Morning, ya'll.  Went to dinner with the in-laws last night at Paradiso.  It's their favorite place to eat when they come to town and I have no idea why, lol.  Since the meal was heavy I missed my workout yesterday and I feel like shiit today.

Speaking of shiit, I had to take Lucy in to the vet this morning to get her butt fixed again.  The first time they did it like a month ago, I don't think they "got it all," or whatever.  First thing she did when we got back from the vet this morning was take a monster dump in the neighbor's yard, so I think we're good!

My in-laws are in town this weekend to build a deck at my BIL and SIL's house, so we will be spending lots of time at the house.  Ben will be building a deck with the men and I'll get to sit inside and shoot the shiit with the ladies.  My poor SIL has been trying to get pregnant for quite a while :( She had a miscarriage around last Thanksgiving, and she was still taking positive pregnancy tests around the Superbowl.  Then she got pregnant again but I guess it didn't stick because there was still a bunch of crap left over from the first MC.  She went and got it taken care of a week ago and hopefully they can catch a break next time around.  Poor thing.

  • I think that's typical of every place, though, Edie.  I usually have the flowers delivered early.  My mom got hers yesterday.

  • AATB- That is really sad.  I hope things work out for your SIL & BIL.  That has to be one of the most frustrating things to deal with.

I think it will.  They already have one kid, and they've been preparing for another one for quite a while.  I have a good feeling about it, but I know it's been tough for them to deal with.
