Happy Friday!

Re: Happy Friday!

• Brandi, I'm so sorry you've had to go through this.
My having to wait six months before knowing *if* I can have kids or not has been really hard on me. I can't even imagine finding out at 16 that you for sure can't.

xH used to have a friend who did taxodermy (sp) on the side.  At one point we had an armadillo, a huge musky, several bass, and some other little critter I can't remember offhand.  We used to have a huge plecostomus in one of our fish tanks and when he died, xH wanted him taxodermied.  He ended up putting him in some salt concoction.  And he thought my coffee table book was weird.

Wow, Brandi, your doctor has no soul.  I'm sorry you went through all that.

Half of the men in our office are big hunters. We have animals on the walls in their offices and it is weird to me.

• Ha, marrin, we don't display them. H likes to study them and get the skins if possible.

Well, that's not entirely true. He also uses the bones (mostly the skulls) to make windchimes. I should note that he doesn't kill the little guys, he finds them dead in his yards (usually killed by his customers' dogs). We have the creepiest decoration using bamboo and a big fish skull. It's awesome.

I'm glad I found someone as weird as I am.

I really didn't like it either; altho he did put the armadillo on a motorized contraption and did a remote control.  What can I say.....it was the 80's.

Les, sorry about your Mother's Day.  I wish your H's family treated you better :(
• Les, I'm sorry your H's family is like that.  Enjoy your steak though!

My brother does something like this with animal skulls and bones too.  Not windchimes, but some sort of deco, and it's kind of hard to tell it's a skull or bones.  Jeebus, we sound like the Addams Family.
• My mom used to refuse to hang my art in any part of the house people could see. I could only hang it in the small hallway leading to my room, which she called "Satan's Hallway" (out of love, of course). It wasn't even bad, like gory, just more...controversial, maybe? A woman at my senior art show said I must be a traumatized person.

But anyway, I didn't show them to H for a long time because of that. When I did, he was all "Let's hang them up! I love them!" Ah, love.

• My best friend's daughter is an amazing artist but her work is not understood.  She was traumatized as a young child (my friend and her H adopted her at 3 years old) and it comes through in her art.  And I do "get" her work, and I have bought a couple of pieces.  One is prominently displayed much to H's dismay but he's gotten used to it.

Yeah. I was explaining my pieces (we had to pick a "direction" or theme, and our pieces had to relate to it) and she said it after I was done. I just shrugged and said, "I'm an artist, what do you expect?"

I have a friend who is a painter and most of her subjects are female.  When she was in high school, she was asked several times if she painted mostly females because she was gay.  She is not and I always thought it was kind of weird that people thought that being gay would be the only reason she was interested in drawing the female form.

• Koda- have fun on your trip to the louvre!  Where else are you going while you're there?

Boo! I tried to get the Jack the Ripper book in the Kindle version and it's not available.

• I can't go to art museums because I'm the same way, koda. Me, my mom, and my stepdad about got kicked out of the Dali museum. Hell, I even giggle at my own paintings when something looks dirty or weird that wasn't intended to be.
• Lol, who should care if an artist is gay, anyway?  Does it make the art less profound?  People really suck sometimes.  Like "Oh are you gay?"  How fucking rude is that.
Does anyone have anything special planned for mothers day?

Taking mom to brunch at Sea Change and to a matinee at the Guthrie. That means nothing to non-locals but the Guthrie is a nice theatre and a treat for us all, not just her. I have no kids-just four footed furry ones (5 of them!).

This turned into one long morning thread!
I'm feeling pretty sad for one of my best friends.  A few weeks ago her Mom was diagnosed with lung cancer.  They then found bladder cancer and a tumor in her brain.  She had a few surgeries and was undergoing chemo therapy when they found two tumors on her spine yesterday. She was sent in for emergency surgery last night and they removed one of them along with three vertebrae and rib and insterted a rod.  The doctors still seem hopeful, but it is doing a lot to the family.  She doesn't have a great relationship with her Mom, so she is experiencing some guilt with all of it.  It is really hard to watch them go through this.

I am always so sorry to hear these stories. Maybe, maybe one day we will be able to fix people up easily in this kind of shape - or really see to it that cancer never gets this far. Best wishes for your friend, her family and everyone in this situation.
In Response to Re: Happy Friday! : I swear Sesh, I'm going to be thinking baseball, coffee-cake, umbrella, and other mundane thoughts just to keep my mind from straying.  I can't help it if the artist paints phalluses and I notice. And why can't we be amused with art and giggle a bit?
Posted by kodakitty
I have random thought processes that result in inappropriate outbursts. Like at the Dali museum, I was staring at painting and a museum worker came up and asked what I thought of the piece. I wasn't really paying attention and just said "I want some chocolate milk. but not from a boob."

She just walked away but it was a perfectly reasonable statement. The painting was a woman squirting milk out of her boob, which naturally led to me thinking about how much I hate milk, and then how much I love chocolate milk, which gave me a craving for it. Come on, tell me that painting's not supposed to be a little funny.
My son mentioned getting together on Mother's Day, but something has always come up on previous MDs.  H will take me to breakfast tho.  My brother sent our mom flowers from all of us and I sent her a Panera CG since she and her friends like to meet there one morning a week for coffee and sweets. Sick cat is exceptionally clingy today.  Luckily, he has remained hydrated on his own so there's been no need for subcu fluids.  We were at vet last Sat. for fluids (no, ladies I was unable to do it at home despite all your good suggestions) and he started bleeding from mouth and nose so vet came in and administered epi and things went BSC from that point on.  So no more - we have pain meds if Bo needs them, and our goal is to keep him comfortable and loved.  No more trauma.

Sounds like a very loving decision to me. We have been there. Hope you have some nice purr time together still.
• TGIF!

My mom and my dad are coming up this weekend to take care of wedding stuff and I'm gonna spend time with them tomorrow since I have to work on Mother's Day.  We are are probably just gonna go out to eat somewhere, and I'm gonna get her a GC for something.  My mom is just happy to spend time with me and this will probably be the last Mother's Day I'll be available for (for a while) since I'm going into the Air Force later this year, and around this time next year I'll still be in training (the job I'm going for has an insanely long training period).

Brandi-I agree with PPs, your doctor sounds like a peach.  Undecided  There are a lot different ways that she could have told you instead of the way she did

Sere-Congrats on graduating!

Koda-I'm insanely jealous of your trip to Paris.  A monthlong trip to Europ is on my bucket list.  I want to go see everything.

Mehg-Thank goodness H's friend comes back next week!  And that sucks about your security deposit. :-(
