I lurk here every now and then. I mostly hang out just on my month board and on the nest board for my area. . .

Yours/FI or H age? How long have you been together? I just turned 25, he'll be 29 in January. We've been together for a little over 4 years. We met on Match.com almost 5 years ago, but didn't meet in person for several months.

Occupations- Yours and FI/H? I am a teacher and FH works for a large computer company as a consultant.

Do you have any pets? - One furbaby named Walker. He's a 4 year old Shih-Tzu we rescued just over 2 years ago.

    Wedding Date? - 7/5/2013

Why did you choose that date/significance? - I REALLY wanted a June wedding, but school doesn't let out til the 20th this year and we live in MD but are getting married in MI, so I moved it to early July so I'd have time to fly home and have some time to prep before the wedding. We also like that it's so close to the 4th of July, it's going to make travel much easier for our friends/family.

Favorite movie: - You've Got Mail. I can't not watch it if I see it on TV, even if it's half way through.

    Favorite musician: - Matt Nathanson
Erin, H and I have talked about doing that once we both graduate.  He wants to open his own garage and I would run the business side.  How hard was it to get started?
    Posted by Edie Bee
Hi Edie! Sorry, I didn't see this!!  We are a little over a year in business now; and its been easier than we thought, but its also just a lot of work and you don't make a lot of money to start since majority just goes back to the business!

We didn't know if working together would work, so I started there temporarlily when I first moved (I used to be a teacher for autistic kids and a cheer/dance coach, so leaving my family, friends and jobs was really hard for me to think about; but once I did it, it was the best decision I ever made)  I love working with my FI and we have this business that we grew together, and had to count on one another to make it a success, so its brought our relationship closer and better than ever.  Not going to lie, there are moments when we need our space, but we definitely are lucky that we can be together 24/7 and still miss each other when not together!  I love my job; it was such a change of what I normally did, that I enjoyed learning the business aspects, and its humorous to family and friends the things I know about cars now, haha.  We weren't engaged when I originally moved, but FI propsed at our 1 year celebration for the shop :)  It just solidified it was all meant to be and was worth it cause we get to build every aspect of our lives together.  So far, so good!

New business wise, we were a little lucky since it was a small town, so people knew him, and its been all word of mouth...he's really one of the most experienced education wise, so even the other shops up here send us all the newer cars and European stuff cause no one will touch it and that's FI forte!  We really don't advertise, but stay more than busy.  But starting out, its a lot of long days sometimes, and we don't get paid as much as we should since majority goes back into the business, but we're comfy, have a supportive family helping us, while we save for a house and focus on growing the business, so I can't complain.  Its worked for us.  We grown more every month :)

Best advise my FI got, and looking at the big picture, I'm glad he listened.  Teachers all told him to wait at least 5 years before doing it on his own.  He worked 4 years while in school (he had degrees for machining and auto repair) and then he went to the bay area and had great experience working on high end stuff back there; so when he moved back home and opened up on his own, he'd seen a lot of different things so was confident in doing it.  He still takes classes and updates too to keep up with everything too, so that gives him the edge.  He was never a "manager" so that aspect is different for him--he's rather just be the mechanic, but I have to remind him that he is the owner now, so people will want to talk to him and sorry, but I really can't tell then what's wrong with their car!  So its a learning experience for us all, but we have good community and a strong support system.
