S/O mental disabilities...

Have you taken the Autism Spectrum Quotient test on Facebook? I was a little, um, surprised by the results.

Re: S/O mental disabilities...

  • I want to but am untrusting of FB apps and tests. Is there a way to take it without linking to FB?
  • what is that test. is it the real deal? a joke?

  • No.  A few of my friends did though and I "hid" the test like I do with all the other facebook spam.

    But now I'm all interested.

  • Well, I have autism in the fam, so I've already been tested... for everything under the sun. Don't know how much I would trust an FB app to tell me anything though..

  • Here you go: http://aq.server8.org/ Now everyone take it and tell me I'm not friggin' autistic.

  • I got a 17. Says I'm normal, evidently.
  • I got the high end of average. Most of the questions just seemed to be aimed at how comfortable you are with social settings. I'm no expert, but being socially awkward /= autism in all cases.
  • I did and the results are as expected given my actual diagnosis.
  • 26.. Above average...nice

[QUOTE]I was an 8.  I think the test is inaccurate.

I think I was an 11 which is also low.  On the other hand, as a psych major I am probably not an ideal test subject since I tend to read into what the questions are fishing for.  My uncle may have undiagnosed Asperger's (my grandmother seems to think so), which is a high-functioning form of autism.  So I guess it runs in my family?  Never been worried I have it, though.  :)

I'm a 16, but honestly this pisses me off to no end. Being obsessed with numbers and socially awkward =/= autism.

  • I scored 32 the first time and 34 the second Embarassed

  • I got a 14. And I was slightly relieved. Once I started to notice the pattern in the questions (haha), I thought for sure I was going to score higher.

And about the FB thing - I've gotten 3 computer viruses in the last year, all that I've traced back to FB app activity. Not doing that again.
  • I got 15. I don't think being socially awkward=autism.

I won't say I am obsessed by numbers but I do find number combinations interesting. Especially license plates.

You're fine.  It's not an actual diagnosis and even then, there are many people with autism that are so high functioning that others rarely guess that there is anything different about them.  I scored much higher than you  :)
  • If this is the same test as the one linked on FB then I got a high average score. As a teacher, I also doubt that a FB app can do what a pysch.ed. consultant can. But whatever, good for fun.

ok..I scored a 37!..but having just been diagnosed with OCPD..I'm not that surprised.

Edited to add: I just started meds to try and stop my need to do certain things or not freak out about change- lol...My therapist would love this test.

  • I got exactly the average for women--15. I actually thought I would score higher, not that I'm autistic, but I'm not always a social butterfly.

[QUOTE]Also, I went through so much mental testing as a child, I started to recognize all the testing patterns and manipulate my answers. It annoys me to no end when a test asks the same thing 10 times with different wording. /end rant

Same here, kinda. Growing up I lived with my Grandfather who happens to be a psychiatrist, then I went to grad school for elementary education and special ed. So I knew exactly what the questions were getting at, which I think definitely can skew the answers even if you try to be perfectly honest.

Exactly!  Did you ever have anyone try to make you very angry as part of their "test"?  That was bizarre.  I was 11.

Precisely!  My parents gave me everything i wanted/needed.  They should have been pleased that I had no complaints.
  • I'm extremely socially awkward, but that doesn't make me autistic. It makes me anti-social. I will say though that my mom asked my shrink when I was little about me possibly hallucinating or having some kind of condition because I used to make up vivid stories and have conversations with myself.

I guess I was an author all along. I still have conversations with myself between multiple characters. Someone on the outside ould think I was insane.
