[QUOTE]i havent looked at this test but it worries me.<strong> There are so many misconceptions about autism</strong> and it doesn't sound like this test helps. My little cousin is mildly autistic and he's not socially awkward etc etc. I feel strongly on this I guess.. I've seen how much my aunt and uncle struggled with all of the related issues..

<div>Agreed. My brother was a lot like Anna described, he actually could never read, but was an amazing whiz at math and chess at 5 even though he didn't talk. That about ends his predictable autism story because he is/was very high functioning and social. At the time he was 3 (1986) no doctors really had a diagnoses for him.  There is still so much more we need to learn.</div>

Exactly.  I keep thinking that someday we're going to find a genetic marker of some sort that will fully define the behaviors of thousands of people that are currently lumped into "low functioning" or "high functioning" as a pseudo diagnosis.

[QUOTE]I want to but am untrusting of FB apps and tests. Is there a way to take it without linking to FB?

This is me.  I don't play any of the games or do any of the quizzes on fb because I don't like the whole "access to my info" deal.

<div>YES, oh god yes. And it will finally put all the "zomg, it was caused by vaccines!" people to shame. In my beliefs it is most definitely genetic, the only reason we have more diagnosis now is because we know more about it and parents are looking for it.</div>

  • Thanks MrsJesse. I really just thought it was interesting. I never thought I had any signs of autism. But it does run pretty heavily in my family. Just one of those things that makes you go, "Hmmmm"

  • I scored a 9, but I'm one of the more people-centered, empathic people I know. I don't mean that as a compliment to myself, more as a description of a personality trait.

I used to take this one for personality disorders, which I must be clear that I do NOT endorse as an accurate measurement of anything at all, but just as entertainment...

  • Oh, and I don't at all mean to get anyone's hackles up, but FYI "handicap" isn't used very often anymore. There are a variety of terms I've heard used such as "mental challenge" or "mental disability," and there isn't one "right" term, but just a head's up that some people become offended by that phrase.

And I'm exhausted and REALLY don't want to get into a PC debate, so I hope nobody takes this as being antagonisic. I often learn of words that I have used that can offend some people (like "blacklisted"... I always thought it symbolized crossing someone's name off a list with a big black marker, but it has racial undertones I was unaware of), and I'd rather know than not so I can make my own choices about finding a different word if I want to.

Thanks for sharing that, Poli. I was completely unaware. I'll switch the title around and remember that in the future.

No worries at all, I really hope I didn't make you feel bad :P It often seems as though every word means something derogatory to somebody, so it can be hard to keep up! I don't think there's any need to walk on eggshells, but I just like to have these things pointed out to me.

Btw, once again, f'ing RIDICIULOUSLY lovely wedding pics!
