Snarky Brides

I'm bad at weddings.

Somebody please design tables around these flowers, preferably with white vases, black tableclothes, white plates and chairs, and make it not look as stupid as it does in my head.  And then tell me what to buy and how much.

kthx.

Actual helpful info:  girl's dresses and guy's ties are purple, girls will have black cardigans, I bought black and white striped ribbon for my bouquet (instead of that teal) and was planning on using it to create a stripey stripe (following me?) around the white vases as well.  Now I am second guessing this.  I also have no idea what to do with our high boy tables (same centerpieces?  different?  none?).

The flowers should have more purple than that picture, and I was planning on putting purple and black in our various signage.  We also have paper lanterns to hang that are mostly purple with a bit of pink too.

This all sounds like a clusterfuck, doesn't it?

  • I have nothing helpful to add here other than I really like that bouquet.

I dont think it will look stupid, just keep the linen black, the dinnerwear/vases white, and maybe use lots of little various height bud vases and use the same flower as in the bouquets? Maybe also if you can use some small white dishes with tealights in them if youre allowed.

I think it sounds fine as long as the colour is used sparingly. Do some white paper lanterns to even it out.

Day time wedding, venue looks like this:

The canopies aren't actually red, they are a neutral beige.  That's just the uplighting in the pic. Edit: and those big square lights aren't there either.  We have some couches provided that are dark wood with a dark orange cushion too and I need to contact the event lady to see if there are maybe white or black covers available.

Nebb, that's my main quandary right now; one regular vase of mini vases to break it up/add interest?  And should we do the same for the highboys?
  • I dont see any reason why not, maybe just make the centerpieces on those tables a bit smaller in size?
  • Kim, is this the same venue as LedZepp?

Oooooh.... If you have any long tables, you could do planter-style centerpieces with really long skinny rectangular vases that you pack with a fuller flower, like a carnation or hydrangea. It can look so lush and modern and can be done expensively. Let me see if I can find a pic of what I'm thinking of....

ETA: If all else fails, go look at the wedding porn on marthastewartweddings.com. That's what I did whenever I got stuck.
  • Celles, I think we may be long lost twins.  I totes laughed at your irrational annoyance of the SB giraffes because that is something I would have (and have) done.

Poli, that's kind of what I was thinking, bud vases wise.  We would probably end up saving money on the flowers too.

Oh, no! Sowwy :(.  But at least the look really similar, so you achieved the look you were going for!

I like Nebb's suggestion of black linens.  Other than that, I got nothing.  I suck at this.
  • Have you maybe thought of using succulents on the tables, in shallower vases/dishes mixed in with taller vases with the flowers themselves, to mellow out the colours a bit?

Kim, does the venue offer you different plates? Depending on how much color you want, I love the look of white chargers (especially if you have the option to do square plates) with colored plates for salad/entree/dessert (assuming you're not doing a buffet). It looks like a really cool, modern venue, and I think you could do a lot with pops of color.

ETA: Then again, it kind of looks like Lisa Frank exploded on our wedding, so you might want to take my opinion on colors with a grain of salt.

... I don't suppose she wants to do mine, too?

I bought lots of centerpiece stuff, but it's currently sitting in boxes in my garage because I don't know how to turn stuff into actual decorations.

  • Nebb, I hadn't thought of that, but I know our florist does succulents a lot.  Scott is using them in his bout because he loves them.

Poli, we are doing stations so we aren't really having the typical table settings.  We are also skipping table numbers.

Edit: STFU, your wedding was amazing.

    Well...ummm...you're welcome?  Haha!

Celles, I can ask her ;)

  • Kim, are you using Butterfly Petals?

I am absolutely convinced that if I weren't actually terrified of people IRL, we would be best friends or something.
    image
  • Kim, that sounds really cool. You could still do chargers at each place if you wanted the place setting to be more clear. Are you assigning tables?

Is this your style at all? It'll help me get a better idea of what you do/don't like...

  • Yes mizzam.  You're doing mostly succulents right?
  • Succulents mixed with jewel tone flowers, to play off the teal color scheme.  I can't picture it so I am trusting Amanda to know what she's doing.
    image
  • We aren't assigning tables, do you think that sounds like a horrible idea?  I definitely see the benefit of assigning tables but our event lady assured us she never has assigned tables for the stations and it always works out.  Hmm.

That picture isn't really my style, TBH.  I love milk glass though.
  • Celles, I get what you mean about not being able to visualize it.  I keep thinking "this would look awesome!" but then I wonder am I going to show up and think "what the fudge have I done?!"
  • umm nothing to add to the centerpieces but I am SO glad you posted that picture.  That is almost exactly what I want for my BM bouquets and cannot seem to explain it to my florist to save my life!

I was thinking about doing single floating flowers in those colors on each table with tea lights. maybe? really not sure, but I know I want simple unobtrusive CPs

I had this same worry, especially because we had a LOT of stuff. Everything came together well. I'm sure you'll be able to figure out what'll look good together... It'll all work out!

I would love a flower list!  That would be awesome to be able to take with this picture to the florist.  Flowers are just not my forte lol!

I was originally thinking using submersible LED lighs to light the vasessince I am not a huge candle person myself and our venue really needs lighting at the table I think.  Candles are cheaper but we shall see!

  • My florist pointed out dahlias (the big pink and purple ones), ranunculus (orange in the pic), spray roses (?), mini hydrangea (lime green), and yoko ono mums which I believe are also green here.
