Congratulations Mariah!  I think that one deserves an AW! The Dallas Greek Food Festival is probably one of the better food festivals in town.  We try to go every year for one meal.  If you go with someone, split the dinner/lunch plate (that price includes admission) and buy one plain admission ticket because the a la carte food is usually better (although the plated meal is a good deal).  Do not miss the honey balls (loukoumades) and the baklava cheesecake.Oh the take home sweets are usually awesome.  I don't make  baklava, so I just get a box and satisfy my fix.

We've had so many issues trying to close on "our" house (yes, i've already mentally moved in!!), but I just spoke to our loan officer and we should be set to close by the end of this month!!! I really hope so, it has been a long process.

I remember reading one of the very early SVH books (like 1987) and my dad picked it up and started yelling at my mom because she was letting me check out smut from the library.  Jessica was making out with someone.  I doubt he even remembers it.

Mariah - I'm so happy for you and Steve...Anna too! :) Greek festival sounds awesome! I love Greek food. Donna gave the best possible description of an immersion blender. Jeff doesn't like "chunky" anything, so it works great for us. It is truly awesome and worth every penny. William Sonoma has one on sale right, but I'm not sure which brand it is. Ours is a Breville. I'm getting dinner with an old friend tonight and I'm really excited about it!

Congrats Mariah!  That's awesome.  They are comming to do the inspection on J's house today so hopefully that will go well and we'll still be able to close on the 9th! The Greek Food Festival is yummy!  It was really hot last year but the food was well worth it.  We parked at a church and took the shuttle for 2 bucks each.  I am currently planning the layoff of another 120 people next Wednesday.  I hate hate hate having this duty.  I wish I could give them some sort of notice or something but they chose not to do that.  Next Wednesday is going to be a horrible day for me :(

I was totally set on Italian food for the wedding, until I saw sample menus from a potential caterer and she does a Greek menu that sounds awesome. Dolmas and hummus and pita... mmm... Lindsay - I feel so bad that you have to do that, I can't even imagine. Hopefully you'll get a change of pace soon.

Thanks ladies....It's not my new job.  My new job doesn't start until late October or early November.  It's with an RPO (basically a consulting firm) so they are putting the final details on the contract with the client right now.  Once that's done, they can give me a formal offer letter and set my start date.  Thanks for asking! :)

I loved the SVH books!  Does anyone remember the Babysitters Club books?  I was addicted to those!  My favorite was the one about when they went on a Disney cruise.  Do they still make those books?

Nae, Can I be a worry wort for a second?  There have been several instances in the DFW area recently of people saying they want to buy cars through Craigslist but, when you show up, they end up robbing you instead.  There was even someone murdered last year by doing this very thing.  I'm sure you'll be very cautious and I only say this because I heard something on the news again last week about it happening.Taking off my teacher warning hat,Julie

Julie, yes, I am aware and saw all of that too. It is a little worrysome. It can also happen if I slap a for sale sign on it with a phone number and someone calls wanting to see it. I don't know of any other options.

A good idea when meeting someone from Craigslist is to meet at a busy gas station like a QT or Racetrac so that there are tons of witnesses!I bought some Frontline for my dogs from someone and felt comfortable meeting them at a busy gas station.Someone who is truly interested in your car will meet you anywhere.

I've sold a few things on CL and the buyer's usually want to meet in public places also for their safety... I think it goes both ways with that sort of thing.

I bought a washer/dryer set of CL and had to go to the guy's apartment to get it. But we didn't have a dolly, so we had to bring like four guys with us, haha. I also found the place I'm staying at on CL. I didn't really have a choice because I was moving within two weeks and I needed a furnished room. There aren't really any other resources for that kind of thing. But we exchange a lot of emails, she sent me pictures of them, the house, and the dogs, and I added her on Facebook so we could get a feel for each other. I've been here a month and it's worked out really great so far! So, I guess my point is that, yes, you have to be careful, but that's true of anything, really.

I looooved Babysitter's Club! The one that sticks in my memory the most is when Stacey found out she had diabetes.
  • edited December 2011
Yes, they were. They were all titled things like The Babysitter or The Stepsister. I always shied away from the similar Christopher Pike books because I considered those R-rated.
