Help! What to do with my moms wedding dress...

So when my parents got married they through together a wedding in 3 days and just called ppl the night before and told them to meet them at x's house, there getting married etc. It was a case of champagne and cake kind of wedding.. (followed up by a impromtu party) Anyway, my mom has always said the only thing she cared about etc was her dress.. she had to have this dress etc. It was like 600$ (30 years ago) and she loved it so much etc. So since iv been plannning my wedding she decided to open up the box. (she got it perserved) and when she took out the dress it looked like someone spilled a pot of coffee all over it. The pearls/beads were all carodeded (sP??) and the whole tihng is just ruined like so ruined. She was so upset, but not the type to show emotion. She put it in a bag and put it with the garbage, but i took it home. So now what do i do with it. Id like to make it into something for her and give it to her you know around our wedding.
Anyideas?
I was going to cut a stip and and have my bouq steamed with it.
Other then that i wanted to make something for her.
p.s. it has big puffy sleeves i think that are of lace.

  • If there's a (larger) section that is still intact and can be cleaned you could use the fabric as a matte in a picture frame and put her wedding photo (or your wedding photo!) in it.
Have someone embroider a section of the lacey sleeve to fabric as a handkerchief?
I like the idea of wrapping your bouquet with it and am glad you're doing something so thoughtful for your mom!

  • I think that incorporating it into a photo, handkerchief, or bouquet are all great ideas.  What a cool way to honor your mom!

<div>I was actually just thinking of doing that! I did a little googleing and I think im going to try to strech out a piece on a thin piece of canvas, somehome center and adhere there wedding photo to it then frame. </div><div>I hope it comes out good! </div><div>I was also thinking of maybe making a small pill sham out, like a small decorative pillow.</div><div>Thanks ladies!!</div>
  • I like the ideas mentioned, but especially the decorative pillow sham!  So sweet that you are honoring your Mom like this, I'm sure she will truly appreciate it.
