RSVP follow up question

We haven't heard some a few of the people we sent invitations too. Our RSVP due date is July 23rd. When after July 23rd is it okay to contact the people as to if they are coming to the wedding or not.
I understand not everyone can make it, but want a good idea of who and how many will be coming. We are also having assigned seating, so this could become a problem if people show up who didn't RSVP.

I would give it a couple of days after, in case some people sent it out on the actual due date.

I agree with PP. Our RSVP date is also July 23, and I'm planning on beginning to contact people on the 25th.

Right now it seems like I'll be calling more than half the list

I would wait two or three days because some people don't mail it out until the date. My RSVP date is today, and I will start calling on Saturday.

I sent out my invites 8 weeks ago and still need to hear from 80 people. My cut off RSVP date is the 27th (next Friday) and I have full intentions of calling people over the weekend. Even if they mailed it on the cutoff day, I'll find a way to make small talk. I really want to get my seating chart of of the way.

This! It's sometimes easier to get ahold of people during the week versus a weekend.

I sent a text out as a gentle reminder 5 days before they were due. I got all but 2 back.

I would say it depends on how long you have after the RSVP date to let your caterer know your final head count. If you gave yourself a big window of time then I would wait 4-5 days before following up with people, you will likely save yourself time because some of those stragglers will arrive during that time. However, if your window is short then I would just start follow up right away.

I started texting people and emailing 1 week after the deadline. Seating chart was done last week, so it took us 2 weeks total after we got everyone's response to get them down at a table.

Ditto this. I ended up giving myself about a week before the final guest count is due to get all my follow ups done.

My rsvp date is Friday and I have over 60 responses (out of 143 invites sent)  I still need so we've began talking to people because honestly it is ridiculous that we are missing so many. Most people we talked to are a yes and just hadn't sent it in yet. I'm very frustrated because we have to have all our table assignments in by July 30 for the escort cards(I'm having them printed).
