Grooms Cake

My Fiance looks at me crazy when I ask him if he is getting a grooms cake for our wedding.  Is this something that still happens, or am I stuck in the old day.  I thought there was a traditional wedding cake then something fun (ie golf, or what ever the groom is interested in) on the grooms cake.

Not at all outdated.  Our baker said she gets requests for a grooms cake with almost every wedding cake order.  It is possible that he's never heard of them because he's from somewhere else or has never seen it done before.

We are both from Missouri.  I have a big family and have been to many weddings in my life as he has a small family.  We are only 22 so we are the first of our friends to get married as well.  The last wedding he went to he was 14.

They are very optional, and in fact I've never been to a wedding that had one.  I'm from the northeast, though.

My FI is from Maryland, and he wants one!

I surprised my groom with his groom's cake.  he is a HUGE Pittsburgh Steelers fan, so I had a football with the Steelers emblem on it.  I thought it would give him some ownership of the "pretty" wedding - LOL

We are doing the grooms cake at the rehearsal dinner.  I think it is more a Southern tradition but I liked the idea so we ordered one through the same baker as our wedding cake.

It's a St. Louis Cardinals cake and I know FH will love it!

I love the idea of surprising him with it, or doing it at the rehearsal dinner.  My F is a huge golf fan, so I may do something along the lines of that!

Every wedding I've been to has had a groom's cake.

My fiance hates cake, so we're doing groom's pies.

    I'm a mid-westerner and I've never seen it.

I have never been to a wedding that had a groom's cake, but I just heard of someone at work doing one, and I think I want to do one for my fiance.  He loves the Steelers, so I'm thinking of doing one of a Steelers helmet for him since I wouldn't let him do black and gold for our wedding colors!!

We might be doing one.  I haven't been to a wedding with a groom's cake (California weddings only) but my fiance has a gluten intolerance. So we figured it might be the best way to separate gluten from non-gluten cake.  And he is a huge SF Giants fan, so that might be worked in there as well. Smile

I have never been to a wedding with one, or heard of it. I am from NJ, but have been living in FL for 5 years now. We are not having one...

I don't think it has anything to do with where you are from.  I live in SC now but I am from MD and I have seen them at weddings both places.  I have also been to weddings in both places that didn't have them.  It is a personal preference.  It is possible that he doesn't know what you are talking about (this happens to my FI all the time) so, just show him what they are and then ask him again.Smile

I'm planning one for my furture husband and its going to be an angry bird :)

Its a personal perferce on weather or not you want to have one... I would perfer to have too much cake then not enough.

We are doing one.  We might not have the grooms cake at the reception though.  We may have it for the rehearsal dinner.  Most of the time the GC is never touched at the wedding.  I was talking with my baker today and she has sooo many exciting ideas for his cake. Check with your baker, they may have pictures of other grooms cakes.
