What did you have or what are you planning to have? My caterer gave me a HUGE list of possibilities and I don't know where to start! I don't know how I will be able to choose!
Think about what you and your FI enjoy eating, any dietary restrictions, and what kind of feel you want for your event (formalness, what is your venue like, etc.).
My FI is from Alaska, I am vegetarian, and we want to have a kosher-style reception. We are having a late lunch reception, and our reception decor has a garden feel. We are serving Alaskan salmon and halibut, lasagna with veggies and white sauce, porcini mushroom purses (we love mushrooms), potatoes, green beans, and a vegan streudel.
Ditto pp regarding food allergies... for example I'm allergic to shellfish, but I can still be around it, I just can't eat it and I know most people really enjoy it so we still offered a few seafood options at cocktail hour.
Even though we had stations, it was still a formal wedding and they were displayed beautifully. I really wish my photographer had gotten a picture of how it was set up and how it didn't look like a cheap buffet at all. I think there's a huge difference between a buffet and stations.

Gosh, girls~ I am getting hungry just looking at your menus! We are doing an informal backyard party in July for about 80 adults and 20 kids... we will have a tent, but also a huge water slide and yard games. For snacks we are having Veggies and Dip Home made salsa and chips and boiled peanuts (as a native New Yorker the thought of boiling peanuts was vile to me until my FI made me try them...now they are a staple snack at our house!)
dinner -- roast pig bbq chicken breasts or chicken and peppers baked beans tossed green salad cole slaw macaroni salad rolls and pretzel salad
for dessert we have a blueberry muffin tower, fresh fruit, and a sno kone machine. We are doing the food ourselves (since the party is weeks after we sneak off to tie the knot and the menu is made up of all of our favorite things that will withstand July weather in Florida...we are going to need A LOT of ice!
