Getting in Shape

WEDNESDAY NEWBIE INTRODUCTIONS

Hey newbies, Please introduce yourselves in this thread! Welcome and remember everyone on GIS is trying their best to be helpful whenever someone needs it. Also check the older posts out, because a lot of FAQ have already been answered. We wish to collect the newbie intros in one place, since they are so frequent right now and there are many threads opened daily as it is. This is also a board where people usually stay active for a longer time, so it's really nice of you to introduce yourself first, before starting to post. Good luck with your lifestyle change and stay accountable in the daily threads!

Re: WEDNESDAY NEWBIE INTRODUCTIONS

  • Hi, My name is Heather! I have been dieting for a couple of weeks now and have lost 13 lbs. I only have about 3 months to my wedding and I can't believe I waited so long to get into shape. Now I have to work double time to lose some weight. I have been "trying" to eat right but sometimes its really hard. I work 3rd shift so I sleep during the day and am up during the night. I get so board that all I do is want to eat when I am at home because there really isn't anything to do at night but watch TV and eat. I have been doing this exercise video called slim in six and using a treadmil but have only been doing it about a week and not everyday either. I have read about the shred and Biggest loser bootcamp but I'm not sure I should try it because it keep reading mixed reviews. I'm really trying to focus on my abs and my arms any suggestions? • Welcome, and the biggest thing I can say is cut the bad eating out! Weight loss is 70% nutrition and 30% exercise. If your wedding is so close, really focus on nutrition from now on. Go to sparkpeople.com or thedailyplate.com to find out how many calories you should be getting per day to lose weight, start counting everything you put in your mouth, and stick to it! Good luck, and I bet as soon as you get rid of the boredom excuses your progress will be even more substantial!
  • Hi there.  I just discovered this board after being over on The Bump for a while.  We are getting married in just over a year and I have 75-80 pounds that I would like to lose.  My husband and I run our own business (mostly just him since I stay at home with our two boys) but it can get extremely stressful and I eat to deal with stress.  I lost 12 pounds about two months ago and I have gained it back already.  I am ready to start again and really try to stick to eating healthy, not just for myself but for my kids as well.  I plan to do Pilates and treadmill to get into some semblance of shape before I start with Slim in 6 and I'm hoping to do the Shred as well.  My biggest problem is finding the time and energy at the same time.  I have energy during the day but not the time and I have time after the kids in bed but I'm usually worn out by then. That's my story in a nutshell and I'm hoping that having people to talk to will keep me on track.
  • Welcome! First off, you have to make time.  I know it's hard having a family and young kids, but if you don't make time for your health, then in a sense, you are not helping your family. You say you have more energy during the day, so get up an hour earlier than you normally do to workout. I'm guessing you do most of the grocery shopping.  Only buy the foods that you can eat.  You and your family can benefit from that. Let your kids see you excercise!  Work out with them.  Maybe join a gym if you can as many of them have childcare for the hour or so you are there.

  • Hi!  My name is Ashleigh, I have been engaged for 7 months and am now just getting into the nitty gritty of everything that is wedding.  We have already booked our venue and will soon have our church, so for the next year I am focusing on being able to fit into a designer gown!  Being that the wedding is just over a year and nine months away, I figure I have a good amount of time to lose the nearly 90 pounds that i want to go away forever!  I have already joined a gym and have been working with a personal trainer for a few months.  I just want to support and be supported because this part SUCKS!  So any helpful tips or words of encouragement are more than welcome!
  • Hi! I'm Veronica and i've been trying to lose  weight for a while now and thought this board would be great for support! My wedding is 10.16.2010 and I want to look great for my engagement pics in a few months. I want to look great, but most importantly feel great.
  • Hey Ladies!I became a member of this board a few weeks ago, and have been occasionally scanning the boards, but haven't introduced myself yet!My name is Kari and I love food!  which is my biggest challenge.  My fiance, Adam, and I are getting married 9/4/2010 and while I have been wanting to get back down to a "healthy" weight for a while for my own personal health, I am using our wedding as a motivator :-)It's funny...I don't feel fat, but according to my bmi I am borderline obese...yikes!  So anyways, my main goal is to watch what I eat :-)  Easier said than done!
