Getting in Shape

Low Carb?!

Hey Ladies!

So, the big day isn't until May, but my Fi and I have decided to work on weight loss and fitness, which I think is needed wedding or no wedding, but of course, the wedding is a big motivation.  We have been doing a low carb diet, but with a twist that others do not include.  The first three days we ate only meat, eggs, and cheese, then on the fourth day, we got to add 2 servings of veggies, and 2 servings of fruit.  So far we have done well, tomorrow is "weigh day" so hopefully we'll like what the scale says!  We are on the vitamin B12 as well as calcium pyruvate, a fat burner.

Does anyone have any tips, or suggested foods for low carb?

Re: Low Carb?!

  • I'd say that I follow a "lower" carb diet, in that most of the carbs I get are from fruits, veggies and dairy with the odd whole grain thrown in there.

I'd suggest that instead of cutting out carbs all togehter (which I know you're not doing) would be to look at the quality of the carbs you're eating and cut out the crappy ones.

Fruits, veggies, dairy, whole grain etc, good carbs.
White flour, sugar etc, bad carbs.

This link has a good list of good vs bad carbs: http://www.stumptuous.com/kristas-kalorietastic-konfabulator

It's a lot easier to maintain weight loss if you make your diet changes a lifestyle change instead of just a short term diet.  Look at the way you're eating now and ask yourself if it's something you can reasonably keep up for, well, ever.  If it's not, then adjust.

  • Also, a part of the diet is to drink 1 gallon of water a day, sounds easy, but thats one of the hardest parts!  I think cutting out sweets and junk food and drinking only water will help anyways, and eliminating bad carbs will make the results that much better... now the honeymoon, I'm afraid to say I'll eat what I want that week!

  • I think everyone;s body is different. I have done low-carb and low-fat lifestyles  and low-carb works better for me. WIth low-fat products sugars are often added. My body just really does not like to lose weight if i am eating too much sugar. THroughout both diets i have ran and worked out with weights. I did not lose any wieght with low-fat and i lost 15 lbs with low carb and i have maintained it for years. so i think it is just finding what works for your body.
  • hjh444-  have you kept the low carb diet and maintained it, or kept up with exercise?

  • Both yes I have always been active and  routinely worked out.
  • And I should add i do have "cheat" days where i just do not worry about what i eat but they are once a month, if that. Especially if i am on vacation I try to still workout and limit my sugar but I am definitely less strict about it. I should also say since I have been on lower carbx/sugars i have felt so much better, way more energy. But like i said everyones body is different and i know it does not work for some people just like low-fat/low-calorie did not work for me. I was exhausted all the time and just did not seem to lose any wieght!
  • i think if you are careful and fill up on salad before you eat other things you will eat less of the other things and should not gain it back.
  • thanks for all the comments and suggestions!
