Dances?

ok, so my dad is not around, so my brother is giving me away. we decided to have a bride/brother dance and have the mother/son dance start (they will join us) after about 30 seconds. done.

but... i'm filling out the dj's worksheet and they list a bridal party dance. what is that and who dances with whom?

also, is there a specific dance where i dance with his dad and he dances with my mom?

Bridal party dances are really out of date.

I wouldn't subject my BP to dance with other members of the BP.  It's awkward for them and it's awkward to watch.

lmao!!! ok, sounds like a plan to me, since we only have 2 boys and 2 girls, i thought i'd be kinda weird, and they don't know each other at all!!!
  • edited December 2011
The bridal party dance is when the BP and bride and groom are the only ones on the dance floor.  I've seen this once and it was a fast paced song and the BP just looked stupid up there because half of the BP bailed.

I've never seen a spotlight dance with the bride/FIL and groom/MIL but if you want one I'm sure that would be fine.  I just danced with his dad at the end of one song, nothing special about it.

what about the dance with me and his dad and Fi and my mom? just let that happen whenever it happens?

anyone care to suggest a bouquet toss song?

It's really fun when one of the groomsmen is married and dancing with a hot young single bridesmaid and his super jealous wife is watching.  The argument afterwards was awesomness.

    True story.  Fun times.

The first wedding I was ever in, she made us do a bridal party dance. They called all of the members of the bridal party to come up to the dance floor with their dates. I didn't realize it was so that we could dance until I was already up there, and of course, I was the only one without a date. We had to all stand around (me by myself) until they found a friend of the groom to dance with me. Then, on top of that, it was a country song and I don't know how to two-step, so he had to count for me. It was humiliating. So no, I won't be doing a bridal party dance. :)

Im having my brother walk me down the aisle too....however we are not dancing. First FI's mom is socially awkward and doesnt want to dance in front of people and second I could not find a good song for my brother and I.

I wouldnt do a BP dance....that's weird IMO

I have never heard of dancing with your spouses in-laws for a designated dance...that's werid too :)

As for bouquet toss....I've got nothing because I personally hate them. I feel it is awkward to ask people to go stand on the dance floor and catch a flying bouquet. 90% of my friends are not single, I have attended weddings were they ask all of the women to join b/c there are not enough single people. I just think that and the garter toss are pointless. Especially the garter toss b/c to me it is inappropriate to act in such a sexual manner in front of your family (and GRANDPARENTS) ekkk!

Yeah, we won't be doing the bouquet/garter toss either, for similar reasons. I hated it when I was single, so I won't be putting my few single friends through that. I know it makes for good pictures, but oh well. And, I take issue with the garter toss for a couple of reasons. First, I tend to sweat a lot on my legs, so the garter would be covered in sweat and then someone has to touch it. Ew. Second, I don't need everyone seeing my Spanx.

I had this at a friend's wedding. I didn't mind it too much. It was kind of fun, but I won't be making my BP do it. I won't even be doing a father/daughter dance. My dad didn't like it when he did it for my sister's wedding so he told me not even to ask him about it. Oh well, I think we will still do the Mother/son one since they are so close.

I know some of the girls mentioned bouquet toss songs in the thread about bouquets and garters but I can't remember what the song was.

you crack me up!!! what to know what is more akward.... where i'm from... you sit on the best man's LAP while the groom takes off the garter.

on that note..... is anyone on here wearing the garter or doing the garter toss? we have to do the toss cause our family would be disappointed if we didn't, but i know that i'm NOT wearing that stupid thing under my dress. i will either slip it on right before, or just ..i don't know... any suggestions?

I'm glad to hear that I'm not the only one skipping the bouquet and garter toss. I thought maybe I was an odd ball for considering it.

I'm just at a loss as to what to do in their place....

We are doing it, and yes I'm wearing the garter under my dress.

My dress is so big and heavy, I'm sure a little thing around my leg will be the least of what is causing me to be hot and uncomfortable by the end of the night. I actually made my garter special for FI, and he hasn't seen it so it'll be a surprise. It's got our Alumni colors on it(we met in college), and 2 charms with our first name initials. That's the one he's taking off, but I have a throw away one that he'll be tossing because we plan to keep the one I made, for sentimental reasons.

You have to know your crowd. We have a pretty fun crowd, and I know that even if it is an "outdated" tradition, they will make it interesting and memorable! haha.

i'll guess i'll probably just slip it on right before. i'm really weird about stuff tight on me.. that is why i'm not wearing any pantyhose or bra under my dress.

Bouquet toss - Tiffany said hers was "Don't Stop Believing" ... which I think is AWESOME!!!

There's always "Single Ladies" by Beyonce!

I did NOT want to do bouquet/garter but Ben did so whatever.  I honestly don't see what the big deal is--it doesn't have to be gross.  I wore it on my leg, he found it, tossed it, end of story.

I did Single Ladies for my bouquet toss--which was still semi-new when I got married but now not so much.  And I didn't feel my garter at all.

Oh, bouquet toss song, I'm using a country song (our whole wedding is going to be a country theme anyway). Cheryl Wright, "SIngle White Female"  If you know the song, it's not as bad as the title makes it sound, I promise. It's a cute song.

I REALLY like this idea. How did you go about identifying who had been married longest? Did you make an announcement explaining? I'd love more details!

We are doing something similar to this, but not with the bouquet. We are doing a dance where they call all married couples out on the floor, and the DJ will say "Ok, everyone who has been married a year or less, get off the floor, 10 years or less, off the floor" continually until the last couple remains standing. Usually someone's grandparents, or great grandparents. I've seen it done before, and I think it's really cute.

WHEW!!!! i'm reseaching the history and came around this for the present: "
The Modern Wedding Garter Toss: The groom reaches under the brides dress and removes the garter during the reception. He tosses it over his shoulder to the waiting unmarried men. The man who catches it takes the garter and slides it up the leg of the woman who caught the bride’s bouquet. It is said that the recipients of the garter and bouquet will be the next to marry (not necessarily to each other)."

i have NEVER seen the guy put it on the lady that caught the bouquet!!! have any of you? now that would just be plain embarrassing!!!
