Getting in Shape

Workout Accountability: Wednesday

Good morning!

I ran 4.5 miles last night.  My legs were pretty tight and are still a bit sore from my lift routine on Monday, so I didn't run as far as I wanted to.  Tonight I'm lifting again and I'll do the elliptical.  Might have to take it easy on the elliptical if my legs are still sore.

How did everyone else do?

Re: Workout Accountability: Wednesday

  • Did 12 minutes on stairs last night, followed by 20 on ellyptical.  Then my body works class (she made us do a lot of arms, so my shoulders are sore!).  Was tight waking up this morning, but got on the treadmill for a 20-min power walk to loosen up for the day!  =)

Today is my 12 hour day, so hopefully going to get some office exercises in (tricep dips on desk, lovehandle exercise, some squats) just to get some in.

  • I did a 10 minute warm-up on the elliptical.  Then I ran 25 minutes on the treadmill at 12 minute mile pace, and then did another 20 minutes on the elliptical.

Today, I hope to do the elliptical for 60 or so minutes and some lifting.

  • Way to go ladies :)

I went to spin class this morning and OH LAWDY I thought I was going to throw up!  I was sweating in the first 5 minutes, dripping by 15, and at the end of class I had to wipe the sweat off the floor!  It was a great workout, but I am most definitely focusing on rehydrating today :)
  • I over slept this morning and missed my gym time :( Ah I have so much anxiety about this!!!! I feel like I undo everything when I miss a day.I have to readjust my calories for today too since I will be over my limit because I didn't go. I have plans this evening so I can't go then....argh.

  • NIce job everyone!

Maribeth - Just remember that eating right is probably 80% of what keeps you in shape, exercise is only about 20%.  You wont undo everything by missing a day.  I often feel that way but its not true.  On average people that exercise more over time than in short bursts and then stop for long periods of time are more in shape :)  Think of it that way.  Just adjust your calories and readjust for your plans.  Don't deprive yourself because of this because then you will just upset yourself, thus making it harder!  Plus, going over your calorie limit every once in awhile is OK... just as long as you don't do it on a daily basis.

Last night I split my time between the eliptical and the bike.  My shins are still a little sore but I've been icing them and doing toe-taps.  I'm hoping to try for a run tonight.  I work in a lab so I have ice readily available so I will do that a few times throughout the day :)
  • Nice work everyone!

maribeth: I know it feels like you're setting yourself back a ton, but trust me, it really is okay to skip a day every now and then.

lbarr: Love the new sig pic! Very cute!

  • Thanks jude :)  My coworker took a few of us around the Common and the Beacon Hill area and she did such an awesome job.  I used the one in my sig for the STDs.
  • I'm new to this board, but my fiance and I just turned the getting in shape knob up to full speed on Monday.  We've both been on the bigger side since we were kids and we've decided to work together to get in shape not only for the wedding, but the rest of our lives.

Last night we followed up our first ballroom dancing lesson with the gym for the second straight night in a row (huge accomplishment for us) -- we're both still getting adjusted to being back there and each did 20 minutes on the eliptical, which meant 2.5 miles for him and 1.5 for me. I need to get back to my ten minute pace I had a year ago and work to improve from there.

Accountability is huge for me, so I look forward to being on this board more!

  • Spinning this morning for me too, I'm glad I'm not the only one that sweats buckets, Medicapril! The bike was a bit off balance, so I cheated a bit on my right side to compensate...I think that's why my hip is starting to get sore. But tomorrow is an off day so I can heal up for Fri :)

  • Wasn't going to work out yesterday and then I ate a donut so I guilted myself into working out for 60 minutes on my bike to sort of make up for it.

I know that a donut isn't that bad, but I snuck it in before dinner and had a muffin for breakfast so that is just too many sweets in a day for me!

Gonna try to hit the gym tonight - there doesn't seem to be enough time in the day, also have to work on a cover letter and my portfolio. We'll see if it all gets done.

  • Spin is a great workout! Bout 1000 cals in an hour class. I've been doing spin for 2 years. Its a great feeling leaving that class. Maribeth- a big step is acknowledging that this is a POTENTIAL set back for you. Now that you acknowledge it, you can take steps for preventing that set back. You'll get back on track! Btw- I resisted the urge at Dunkin Donuts today! I love their pumpkin muffins, and a quick search on my phone showed they are about 500 cals a piece! Ah! Also- how do you get the siggy to come up every time you post? So confused on that! Lol! welcome to the board girls :-)
  • I can FINALLY post on one of these threads because I actually got my @$$ in gear for once.

Started JM's Ripped in 30 DVD last night.  Ouuuuuuch!  Very sore today but plan to do another round tonight. It's so helpful to find a reasonably effective workout that can be done in 20 minutes.  I work 12-hr shifts, commute 1 hour, and have homework for class, which has always been an excuse for not working out.  Now I have no excuses.

  • I didn't get home til after 9 last night and my gym closes at 10.. I did end up doing one of the JM 30DS workouts. I was hoping to run, but at least I did something! Bootcamp class tonight!
  • I made it to the gym this afternoon. This is the first time I've worked out more than once during the work week and I'm feeling good about getting back to it. I think I just need to look at it as a regular part of my day like brushing my teeth. It should just be a given.

Keep up the good work everyone!

  • Did an intermediate Zumba class on the Kinect & then did my first day of Jillian Michaels Ripped in 30. It was tough, but I was proud of how I managed to hang in there. I think I need to up my weights, though, as some of the exercises with them weren't pushing me hard enough.

I know there have been a lot of posts recently on C25K. I downloaded it a couple of years ago on my iPod. I want to do it again, but the music drives me crazy. Any ways to get my own music as the background? I don't think I can listen to his "techno" background music. TIA!

  • Today was Crossfit for me. Chest bench presses, pull ups, push ups and squats! I felt really week on the bench press!
  • Had a rough day at work and thought maybe putting on my 20 minutes on the elliptical would be the best thing ever.  WRONG.  Had a hard time finding an elliptical machine.  Forgot my iPhone which has all my music loaded on it, and couldn't hear the background music in the gym over Ms. Social Butterfly on the machine behind me who was chatting on the phone almost the entire time.  Honestly, how hard could she have been working out if she could still carry on a conversation?  :-P

Still stuck it out for 20 minutes though!
Whoever said it was supposed to be happily ever after is a big fat liar.
