Re: .

  • It's not bad if you pack the third meal with tons of protein and nutrients.  I considered the diet but realized how difficult it would be to get all of my fruits and veggies, and enough protein to keep me going.

  • I'm not a fan of the Special K diet.  I'd rather eat more substantial food that is nutrient-rich versus a light bowl of cereal.

Instead of the cereal, I would recommend instead making sure you focus on meeting your recommended fruit and veggie intakes.  Fruit is usually around 1.5 cups per day and veggies around 2.5 cups per day.  It was something a professor recommended to us once because she said we would be surprised how not hungry we were and how we'd have very little room for the crappy stuff if we made sure to get in all of our fruits and veggies.  And she was right.

Those with a substantial level of fruit and veggie intake also reduce their risk of multiple chronic diseases.  That's a lot more than you get out of that bowl of Special K.

  • I don't think most of those are very healthy.  They work because they drastically limit the amount of calories you consume to below a healthy level.  But, as you said, it's only temporary because your body will eventually go into starvation mode.

I think you'd be much better off just limiting carbs and salts and processed foods before your wedding to shed a few pounds.  And kicking up the exercise of course.

  • The only reason the Special K diet works is because it forces you to limit your calories.  There's nothing healthy about eating that few calories, and having half of it come from processed, chemical junk.

Track your calories, and get them from real, whole foods.  You'll have the same results AND it will sustainable.

  • Eat less junk and more healthy foods, such as, lean protein, whole grains, veggies & fruit. Add a bit of excercise to that and you'll be good to go.

Speical K came up with that diet to sell more of their Special K products. All it does is limit calories.

  • I'd cut out the Special K and opt for more protein-centric breakfasts (eggs, greek yogurt etc.)  It'll keep you full for longer in the beginning of the day, reducing the amount of calories you take in overall. Then focus on getting your allotment of veggies and fruits.

  • Thanks everyone, I guess I should have made my first post more clear.

I already eat a very healthy diet, and exercise regularly. I never do any crash diet type of things...I guess I was just wondering if anyone had tried this diet for a last minute push to lose weight and found it effective?

It's not something I would do for any extended period of time.
  • It's going to be effective because you're reducing your calories.  But that doesn't mean it's  a good idea.  Even for a short time.

Also?  How last minute are we talking?  You won't want to lose anymore after your dress is done being altered, unless it's a corset back.

  • Great, then I'll give it a shot.

Obviously I wouldn't attempt to lose a ton of weight after my dress had been altered. I meant last minute in relation to the alterations, I suppose.
