Do you wear your engagement ring to the gym?

I did a knot search and no luck.  So, do you wear your engagement (and/or wedding ring) to the gym?

I kind of want to leave it home because I don't want it to get damaged.  Then again, I don't want to present myself as being single.  Thoughts?

Re: Do you wear your engagement ring to the gym?

  • I totally wear it to the gym, but i guess it depends on what kind of exercise you are doing. I am a teacher, so my ring is going to get a bit scuffed from doing my daily stuff anyway, so I am just going to get it polished before the wedding. as a side note, I am also paranoid I am going to lose it, so I don't take it off that often.
  • The only time i take mine off is to golf because it pokes through the glove. I work out in mine and just clean it once a week in a solutions.
  • No, I don't. I worked it jewelry and it made me pretty conscious of taking good care of my ring. My center stone is pretty prominent and its really bad for the prongs to get knocked around the way I'm sure they would at the gym.

I also lift heavier weights which have some serious grooves in the metal  of the dumbbells and while you can polish the scratches out of your ring over polishing can lead to degrading the gold and the integrity of the ring. I accidentally wore my ring once into the gym and it just ended up sliding around all over my finger and I was worrying about it the whole time.
  • I think it depends on what you are doing. If I'm taking a spinning class or just some running, I'll wear it.

But like mynameiskatie said, heavy weights can do some damage, so I don't wear it then. I keep it locked up in my car if I'm coming from work or I just leave it at home.

[QUOTE]I dont. I dont care what im percieved as (married, single, whatever), im there to work out. I have a much more comfortable workout when im not worried about my ring, having it slide around my finger because im sweaty or dealing with it digging into my hand when I lift. If I go to the gym from home, I leave it on my desk. If I go straight to the gym after work, I put it in my wallet in my locker.

  • I always take it off.  I get too worried about it slipping off or squeezing my fingers when I run.

I scuba dive too, so I ALWAYS leave it off for days where I'm diving - it doesn't fit well under dive gloves, and I would hate to lose it in a lake or at a dive site.

I have two places where I put it:
    - At home - bathroom counter in the little tealight holder.
    - On a dive trip/at the cabin/other assorted travel - on the clip for my house keys, that way if it's not in the house, it's with my way home.
  • I wear it for cardio at the gym, but as other ladies pointed out, the heavier weights have grooves that can really destroy the integrity of your ring band.  I'll take it off and put it in the 'secret' pocket of my jacket, or if nothing else, I'll slip it over my headphone cord and tie a knot around it so it doesn't slip around.  I usually listent o music while lifting, so it works out great.
  • I guess because I go to the YMCA, it's not the typical meathead/make-up-wearing-elliptical-girls scene and I don't wear my ring most of the time.  When I first got it, I did but then I went to have it resized and the jeweler gave me a hard time about it.  I am not a fan of taking it off when I haven't been home before the gym to leave it in its normal place so I do wear it occasionally but only for yoga or cardio.

  • I try to never wear my ring to the gym.  If I forget to take it off, I usually put it on my necklace so its still with me (less chance of losing it) but it wont get scratched/damaged.  I'm thinking of getting a plain gold or silver band after the wedding that I can maybe wear to the gym.  But that may still bother me when I lift weights.

I take mine off.  I used to string them on my necklace, but then I'd stab myself in the chest when doing lat pulldowns, so now they stay in my gymbag in my locker.

I think that as long as you're not using the ringless opportunity to shamelessly flirt with guys at the gym, then it's alright to not be wearing it.

  • I can't stand wearing my ring when I work out! I didn't wear my rings before I was engaged and I don't wear them now. I leave them in my car in the cupholder. Same for when I play volleyball or softball.

I also don't sleep with my rings on or wear them when working in the yard. I pretty much only wear them on the weekend if we go out. Other than that, they stay in the drawer in my bathroom.

I'm hoping to learn to be able to wear the wedding band at all times...but for now the rock is only on situationally.

I do take it off when I'm lifting weights. If I forget to take it off at home, I'll put it in my wrislet, which I use to carry my keys, money, gym card and ID. Even though it's platinum, it can still scratch. If I'm doing cardio, I usually leave it on.

And honestly, some people are married and don't wear rings. My mom doesn't wear her e-ring, just her wedding band, and FMIL rarely wears her rings anymore. A lot of men don't wear rings, especially those who work in hands-on jobs. So I don't care much if strangers think they can assume something about my relationship status.

  • I literally just never take it off so I wear it to the gym.  And actually I play golf, aoftball and soccer in it too.  I have a solitaire though so I think it helps that I don't have any side stones that dig into my fingers.  I have other rings though that I used to wear on accident to the gym and would have to take them off from the smaller stones twisting into my hand.  As someone else said I get my ring checked every 6 months and have it insured so I'm not gonna lie I don't feel the need to take extra precautions with it.  Plus I'm a phys ed teacher, so it would get banged around at work more than the gym anyways.  And truthfully my hand just feels completely weird without it on anymore.
I do have to say though that when it was sent out getting sized I went snowboarding and fell and broke my left wrist.  It swelled so quick that they definitely would have had to cut it off if I was wearing it.  I guess it was my "lucky" day.  So now I will think twice before wearing it snowboarding again!

  • I wear mine at the gym.  Whenever I start to feel like slacking off, I look down at that diamond, think about my future husband waiting at the end of the aisle, and it motivates me to work harder.  I want to be a hot bride.  :)
Happily married since September 2010. :)

I usually wear mine. I plan on wearing this ring everyday for the rest of my life, and that's totally fine if the ring gets a few scuffs and scratches. No one ever looks close enough at rings to notice anyways. When is the last time you saw a ring on another woman and thought to yourself "woah that ring looks like it went through a garbage disposal!" Probably never right?  I feel like a well worn ring is the symbol of a long (and hopefully happy) marriage, and that my ring should be worn proudly, no matter how much of a beating it has taken.

  • I have a fairly large solitare ring and always take my ring off before I start working out. I suppose it would depend how rigorous you work out. I do lots of other activities as well biking, swimming, and scuba diving. I don't want to ruin my ring if I happen to crash while biking. I don't wear my ring scuba diving because some fish are attracted to flashy things. I keep my ring box with me at all times in case I need to put it away.

I also do not clean the house with my ring. Chemicals can ruin the ring as well.
  • I wear my engagement ring but I turn the stones towards the palm of my hand because I sometimes hit my hand on the bar when running on the treadmil.
