vent Overwhelmed... am i the only one?

This weekend I have just gotten this feeling of being totally overwhelmed with everything I am going to have to do over the next 14 months.... I am super happy so I am not second guessing anything at all - but feel like there is no way I am going to plan and have the wedding I want  beacsue I have no idea what I am doing...

I have my venue - and have pretty much decided what food we want - which is why the venue was decided so easily - ceremony and reception are happening there - and we have an after party planned loosely too... we picked our save the dates this week - and pretty much decided we are using zazzle for our invitations - but i still have so much to decide on... and no idea what way I am going on anything else... i just feel like no matter what i end up deciding on someone isn't going to like it and its going to be a fight - or argument about - or in the end it will look nothing like it does in my head -

oh and i still haven't decided on who is in the wedding - i know there is time to decide on all that but it just seems like the fact that I am planning a wedding is also highlighting the fact that I do not have very many close female friends - and well for a lot of reasons most of my guy friends would not be appropriate ...

Ugh - sorry for the vent

  • I am feeling the same! And I don't have the venue nailed down yet, so you're ahead of me. I thought that having over a year to plan a wedding would make it easy, but it's still super stressful!

Some days I wonder if we should just elope, even though I've been dreaming of my wedding day for years!

  • Breath!  You already have a lot done!  You have time.  Take it one thing at a time.  Write things down!

  • I was really overwhelmed too... to the point I would start crying when I thought of everything I had to pick and decided.

I just focused on one vendor at a time, so I was less overwhelmed. I picked vendors in order of importance, follow by vendors who booked quickly or were limited quanities (ie churches) in my area.

As I booked a vendor or started looking for a new vender, I would run this list of vendors booked and vendors left to book, which reminded me how much progress I have made.

There are so many resources out there, and plenty of places to find inspiration if you're not quite sure of your vision yet. Find a timeline and follow it - not necessarily the "do this at this time" part, but follow the order and make sure you hit all of the things. When you make a decision, cross it off the list and move on -- it's ok if you change it later, but try not to mull over shades of blue for the cocktail napkins for too long... And don't try to please anyone else! In the end, this is your and your FI's wedding, and it should be a reflection of the two of you. In the end, you are getting married and vowing to spend the rest of your life with the man of your dreams. Keep that at the forefront of your mind and the rest will eventually fall in to place.

Keep your chin up! You're getting MARRIED!!

I completely understand since I started to get really panicky when a couple vendors that I was considering when I began planning in June told me they were already booked for next year!  But this website has been phenomenal in helping me sort out what I need to do as well as who the vendors are that are probably the best in their field for my area.  I urge you to use the knot's tools on this site including: checklist, budgeter, guestlist, vendors etc.  The checklist is a good place to start.  And use your local board to cross-check knot recommended vendors with those that brides in NC may be recommending based on their personal experience.  Then go to other wedding websites and triple check on reviews there.  Using the knot and listening to the lovely ladies here has helped me get super far in what I have done.  I know I sound like a commercial but I even used the knot-michigan magazine to find my bridesmaid dresses so pick one of those up too!  And the best part is that all this great advice they have is free!  So keep your head up, breathe deeply and you'll be just fine.Smile
  • thanks, I just really thought I had to have been crazy for feeling so overwhelmed so far out.  FI is great - but he basically agrees with anything I want to do and really doesn't give me any input... other than "that will work" or "relax"
My sister (MOH) who is out of town called last night and was like okay so what kind of list of things  we need to do (she is coming down in sept and we are going dress shopping )
When I start making lists I think of all the little stuff and forget some of the bigger things -

also I am working with my parents money - which you think would make it easier - but it actually seems to make it more difficult - i haven't been given a budget - but i also do not want to spend a small fortune for the wedding - we are saving on lots of things - (i don't want a million flowers as my centerpieces and would actually be fine with no flowers in centerpieces at all ) - but instead I am coming up wth a ton of DIY projects - and but am afraid to try to make something to try it out - and turn out to hate the idea and then be back at scratch...

oh i have been dreaming of my wedding day for years and spent quite awhile not thinking i was ever going to have one - honestly i would  be fine with going to the festival we got engaged at but my family is totally against that - so now I have to try to turn my hotel wedding into a hippie chic /  but still princessish (is that even a word) type of thing -

  • I'm a September 2012 bride with 70 days- that's TEN WEEKS- until her wedding.  I can completely understand the overwhelmed feeling.

At this time last year, I didn't have a venue.  I had a rough idea of a date- August 18th- which obviously changed.  We had *nothing* sorted out and didn't officially sign with our venue for another month.  Our photographer wasn't booked until early September.

    Breathe.

Yes, a year will go by extremely fast (faster than you'd think).  BUT you still have plenty of time to iron out the details and pull off a fabulous event.  I am so very stressed out right now, and I remember how stressed I was a year ago.  But you just have to trust that you can make this happen.  You just need to relax a little bit (or your Fi will start to hate the new stressed-out you haha) and believe that you CAN do this.  Take baby steps and slowly-but surely- your wedding will fall into place.

Just take a step back, breathe, and gather yourself.  You will have a beautiful wedding!!
  • well youre ahead of me already! i havnt decided on a venue yet. my FI and i have opposite scheduals and its so hard to coordinate time that we can both go look at them. i have mini panic attacks all the time( mostly about how we have ZERO planned and ZERO saved)

i just keep thanking my FI and my mother for keeping me calm. reminding me that its all going to come together and that in the end, if we are married and happy, we reached success.

    goodluck with planning!
