Flame Free Friday!

I thought Friday would never get here!  And this is the first FFF I've gotten to do in about 3 weeks!

#1  I'm already tired of hearing whiny Texas fan's excuses.  You didn't have Colt, he chose his future with the NFL over his team (and I'm not saying that I blame him) so it doesn't matter if you would have won with him playing, because he didn't.

You should be proud, your team played very well considering the situation. So Get Over IT!!!!!!

    ditto Tiffany...

I'm sick of TX fans saying they would have won had Colt not got hurt... well, they should have a tougher QB or a better offensive line to protect him.
"Shame on Bama for playing so rough" .. what?? it's FOOTBALL!!

    anyway..

My In-Laws better be glad I love them! I feel like I am planning a wedding all over again.. their 50th is this year :) Since I'm here and not in GA and can't help with everything.. I volunteered to make invitations and save the dates. I probably should have asked for a guest list first lol.. I have a feeling their ball park number is going to be a lot less than actual

This morning my husband said we should have had a potluck reception.  I told him he should post that on the Etiquette board.

He made a pretty good argument for it, though.  I'll give him that.

  • edited December 2011
ha.. potluck reception.. that would save tons!

a girl I used to be friends with and was going to be the MOH in her wedding wanted me to throw a pot luck shower.. I couldn't even bring myself to do that, let alone a reception.

Hey now...I'm not saying Texas would have won if Colt hadn't gotten injured...but I certainly would have liked to have seen how that game would have been played out.

Regardless, I'm impressed with the freshman QB who no doubt must have the weight of the world on his shoulders when he went out their to replace Colt.  He did an awesome job and should be recognized for his efforts.  Can you imagine being a true Freshman out there on the field playing in the biggest game of the season?  Seriously, that's amazing.

I think it was a stupid call on the coach's part to try and have Colt run the ball like that.

Everyone always says that fans of School A or School B are sooo obnoxious, but really, all teams have annoying fans who are far too invested for their own good.

In other news, the Olympics start in 35 days! I only watch sports once every two years, for the Olympics. I love them.

I can't say that the thought of a pot-luck didn't cross my mind..... or en entrance fee in lieu of gifts...  I don't need 80% of the stuff I registered for so just help us pay for the wedding. haha.

I would never do that... I'm just kidding.
  • edited December 2011
Steve said, "I'd tell the people:'I'll give you $20 if you bring a dish to my wedding'".  I laughed.  It's nice to get a laugh in while you're maneuvering around traffic on 75 at 7:30 in the morning.

Ohh... UT.... I don't know why I hate that school but I do.

I'm not even from Texas orginially.  I think it stems back to when I was in high school back home and it came time to order our cheering uniforms.  I remember seeing the "burnt orange" color and thinking how gross it was.

That has always stuck with me... sad.

oh Mariah, I totally agree! It was an awesome game and Texas held their own. I would have loved to see it played out with Colt. Totally 100% agree.

I'm just seeing on FB and hearing at work people say that they would have won had Colt not got hurt. You know what? maybe so! But he did get hurt.

I also agree with your FB status last night about Colt crying.. I'd totally cry too!

Speaking of burnt orange.  I hate those colors, too.  And seriously, their band uniforms are probably the ugliest thing I've ever seen.

With FIL gone, my MIL mentioned last week that she might be downsizing.  Right now they have a 5 bedroom home, although she still has 4 adult children (ages 26, 23, and 2 that are 21!) living with her.  One of them asked what would happen if the house was too small for the 5 of them?  She said he could either sleep on the couch or find somewhere else to live, and then she looked at us like she was expecting us to step in.

We have 3 extra bedrooms right now, but there is no way I am letting any of his siblings live with us.  They all have jobs and enough money to support themselves.  The oldest one is a doctor and makes more money that David does!  I hope she does downsize so that they can finally grow up and get out into the real world.

Steph... REALLY??  I'd tell her to give them all notice that she was selling the place and find herself a nice 1 bedroom location somewhere.  (Maybe two so she can have a REAL guest visit her)

I can see staying with your parents for a while to save money... but there is a point you have to move on.  Maybe this is the nudge they need.

I don't understand the point of things that are supposed to 'raise awareness' for issues and diseases we all are aware of.  How is posting my bra color on FB going to help breast cancer research?  When NFL players and announcers were wearing pink for breast cancer awareness it felt more like a publicity thing than anything else.  Unless I missed it, they never made a donation to research or treatment centers.  It seems like the $ that was spent on pink gloves, and shoes and other things that were used once would have been put to better use as a donation.

I feel like a lot of these 'awareness raising' events are ways for people to feel like they're doing something charitable without having to spend the time or $ that real charity requires.

    I still did it, though.

I don't know why, but I always feel justified it not getting any work done on Fridays. Just because it's Friday.

    Shannon, seriously!
  • edited December 2011
So, kind of funny how things work. I was actually so annoyed by the pointless FB bra posts that I logged onto the breast cancer research foundation site and made a donation. I felt like that would help more than people knowing my bra color. I guess in a backwards way the stupid bra posts brought me to action.

Now I think I'll go and make a donation to the SPCA just because.

    I say "seriously" a lot.

I think when I die, I want the word "seriously" put on my tombstone.  Because that word basically sums me up.

It means the player is actually in their first year of college. A "redshirt freshman" is really a sophomore. Coaches often "redshirt" someone so they can have an extra year of eligibility. I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure that means they aren't allowed to play their first year at all, only practice.
  • edited December 2011
He was a freshman.  Most "freshman" who play football are "red-shirted" which means they are benched the whole year and never play until they're actually a sophomore.  That way, they get another year in college football.  They are only allowed 4 years to play.

Ah, so that is what that was....I was wondering why I kept getting posts from alot of my girlfriends with a color-word.  Most said "black" and I was thinking that I wasn't in on something...not that I have to be, lol.

So after my mess with Alfred Angelos over my dress... they called yesterday and said it would be in by the end of January instead the end of March like they originally said. So, yesterday I called Becky to ask her if she could alter my dress and she said I'll mark you on my calendar and just call me when it comes in...... Alfred Angelos calls today and says "your dress came in, you have 14 days to pick it up".... really?!?!

I feel more frustrated than happy that my dress came in! Now I'll pick it up this weekend and call Becky back. Not sure if I'll take pictures of me again in the dress, but I have pics from when I tried it on (2 sizes too small).

Okay, this will get me flamed, but consider what *horrors* I had to go through watching OU since the last NC.

Disclaimer: I never wanted Colt McCoy to get hurt and I truly feel bad for him. I also don't appreciate some of the trashy posts on the rest of this blog.

    That being said:

    Tongue out

PS-- I also don't think all Texas fans are A**holes, or that OU would have necessarily won the OU/TX game if Sam was in

I think it is ridiculous that so many people get so worked up over a football game.
