flower dilemma- help!

Well I went to a see a florist today and I told her I wanted stargazer lilies with carnations. She pretty much told me it was a silly idea and that the carnations would look really "cheap". I explained to her that I was on a tight budget and that I knew that the stargazer lilies were going to be expensive as it was and I didnt wanna add other expensive flowers. She basically told me that I needed tree branches and cherry blossoms for the wedding flowers to look "uncheap". I am so frustrated. Do you think carnations as a whole are just cheap looking? do u have any other suggestions for a cheap flower I can combine with the stargazer lilies? Help!
Im so clueless when it comes to flowers.

I have never seen the pair together and honestly i can't imagine what it would look like. I don't know that cheap is the right word but the two flowers definitely don't compliment each other and aren't generally used together. I think it would look weird. If your concerned about budget using branches would be a good idea. They are a lot cheaper than flowers usually. Also why are you so set on the stargazer lillies? Consider an alternative like alstromeria. IMO pink alstos look so similar and they are really cheap. Whatever you decide, use your florist as a resource. I'm sure she's done tons of bouquets and the fact that she suggested the branches tells me she's eager to work with you and your budget and make sure your end result will look great.

I also think that lilies and carnations would be weird paired together. Carnations are usually considered a cheap flower but don't let that deter you if you really want them. If it is just from a price stand point you may be able to get around it. You could do the lilies for your bouquet since they are expensive and do bunched carnation bouquets for the BMs. You could also consider smaller bouquets to save money. Look into roses, alstromeria, etc. Stay away from using lilies or orchids in everything; use them sparingly to keep cost down. Also use in season flowers.

Your florist sounds snotty. I would suggest visiting a few other florists. Tell them about your budget and your idea. They could suggest ideas or money saving tips without being hurtful or snotty. I just don't think you are connecting with this woman, which is important to do. Please meet with a few other florists. You'll be glad you did.

see, all carnation bouquets can be pretty:

thanks for your suggestions. My wedding is not until july of next yr so I still have time to find the florist who fits my budget and my vision. I will continue to speak to other florist and I will ask them up front what other options I have besides carnations or roses(i'm personally not a fan of roses) that could fit my budget. I definitely think this was not the right florist.  I guess I should also be a little bit more open to suggestions. I actually think the carnation bouquet in the pic is nice. I'm starting to think that maybe using both flowers separately might look better than using them together.  I have a meeting with two other florist on Saturday, I hope I have a better turnout.

if you're not particular on the specific flowers but more concerned that the flowers match your colors, i would ask the florist to see what flowers they recommend to fit your budget.

I recomand my florist, they are very nice and give great ideas. They especially work with our budget.

Keep in mind that your guests will mostly see the flowers from farther away. To me, carnations from a farther distance can mimic peonies a little. I wouldn't worry about it. Maybe just use them separately. You'll also save a ton of money by using lilies in just your bouquet as the special flower than using them in everything. Let us know how things turn out.

So I went to a florist today and I think I found THE ONE!, She was so helpful and great. I explained my dilemma and she was more than glad to make a quick sample so that I can decide for myself if this is the route I would like to take with my flowers. I actually thought it came out much better than expected. She also suggested to do the bridesmaid bouquets with all carnations. She showed me a sample and it looked great. My bouquet will consist of only stargazer lilies. She gave us a price that we just couldn't resist. I'm glad we're done with that. Next project-the DJ.
