Help! Strong reaction to song!

It just occured to me this past week that my processional song makes me cry.  I have never been much of a crier (not even at movies) but when I hear our special song and think of my wonderful fiance, WATERWORKS! When I cry, my eyes get very red and puffy and it takes a good little while to get them normal.  I don't want to walk around looking like that on my wedding day!

How do I walk down the aisle without bursting into tears the day of my wedding?  Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

My date is 8-5-12.

Re: Help! Strong reaction to song!

  • If you're dead set on using that song, you could always try listening to it over and over to see if you could desensitize yourself?

I was going to jokingly suggest wearing earplugs, but don't actually do that.  :)
  • Have you considered doing a first look before your ceremony? I know you'd still be hearing the music, but maybe if you've already seen your FI you'll be less emotional. We did one mainly so that we could have all of our pictures done before the ceremony, but I was also worried about crying during the ceremony -- I'm an ugly crier. Having a private moment beforehand w/FI (and the photographer) helped calm me down and crying wasn't an issue.

  • I love a crying bride! I think it is sweet, don't worry about it!
  • Thank you all for your suggestions!  I talked to the fiance about is and he had the same opinion as you, katherinelawre.

    I can't wait to marry him!!! :)
  • I thought I would cry, too.  However, I was such a ball of nerves that I didn't even notice the music.  Even our first dance song used to make me teary-eyed, but I was completely fine at our reception.  If you love the song and it evokes emotion, why not use it.  I actually think it was kind of odd that I didn't cry.  Like PP, I love a crying bride!

  • OP i COMPLETELY understand.  FI and I ***LOVE*** clair de lune, and knew immediately that i'd wanna use it for my entrance. so we put it on, and sat down on the couch to listen and imagine what it'd be like.  we were both bawling about 20 seconds in. haha

listen to the song often and try to make excited/happy connections to other things.  my plan is when i walk in that day is to NOT get lost in thinking about my FI and the mushy part, but instead thinking about how awesome the song sounds in the church and how much FUN the whole moment is. i cry at everything, so clearly this is a lost cause...but a girl can try, right? =P
