Help with ipod reception

We're planning on using an ipod at an outdoor reception venue. What equipment do we need to rent? Any other tips and advice is greatly appreciated :) Thanks

We're in the same boat; outdoor wedding/reception, plan to just ipod the music.

From what we understand the best thing to do is make 3-4 playlists. "Ceremony" "Cocktail hour" "Dinner" "Dance", and maybe something like "Other". You want to put someone in charge of it. You can micromanage the whole event songlist, or just pick songs you like and ask them to shuffle/pick and choose as they like.

As for equipment, it depends on the venue. Assuming you are starting with nothing but an outlet you'll need an extension cord, a reciever and at least 2, probably 4 good speakers. We're actually considering just buying a home stereo system and good speakers to use for the wedding and then install in our house after. Like most Rent vs. Buy it's probably only about half the price to rent, depending on if you can get a deal.

I'm not super positive on how we're going to do it for sure but i'm thinking we'll have to take our laptop so the ipod battery doesn't die. We'll definitely make a playlist and we'll probably assign someone to take care of it if anything were to go wrong. The suggestions above are very helpful and we'll probably end up going that route.
