*headdesk*

We finally found a place we could afford in a safe area that we fell in LOVE with today.  Condo, 2 bed/1 bath/1 car garage -- going to be completely remodeled with granite countertops, new cupboards, new Energy Star appliances, amazing light fixtures, hardwood floors, etc for $995/mo for 1000 sq ft.  Within 5 minutes walking distance from a DART rail station and in a very nice neighborhood.

We made an appointment this afternoon that I thought would last 30-40 minutes but apparently she booked an appointment 20 minutes after ours.  I didn't have time to finish asking her questions before her next appointment was already there.  She was also going to send us a link to a large 1 bedroom that was coming up available in April.   I get home tonight to her e-mail.

The condo is gone already by the people she saw after us.

The one bedroom she thought was available in April isn't.  So we waited for nothing and lost the only condo they have in the complex.

I'm kind of devastated right now.

Re: *headdesk*

  • I'm sorry. That's awful.

You should have been given your full appointment and an apportunity to put down the deposit on the place at the end of it if you wanted it. Just her saying "by the way, I have another couple coming to look at this place in 10 minutes ... if you are interested, you'll need to let me know right now" would have been fair. Then at least, you had the chance. It sounds like she rushed you because she knew the other couple was a "sure thing." So unfair.
  • Oh no! So sorry to hear that especially since it had what you guys were looking for. You guys will find something MUCH better just keep looking :-) And hopefully the next agent won't be so inconsiderate!!
  • Ugh.  That is terrible.  I hope you find something else soon.

FWIW, there are some condos/townhomes close to where I live that are really nice.  I don't know the prices -- some are really high, but others are pretty reasonable.  Check out 15th St. Village.

I don't know how long her appointments usually last -- I guess she always books 20 minute appointments?  I just figured it would be longer than that.  20 minutes was not even close to enough time to introduce ourselves, have her walk us through the apartment and explain in detail all of the changes that would be made, and ask all of our follow-up questions.  They seem very dedicated to renting to good renters, so I thought they would take their time in their appointments, show the property off, walk the complex and show you the pool/dog run/etc,  and sit down with you and go over specifics... not show the apartment, rush through a few questions, and then say she was sorry but her next appointment was waiting right outside.

To be fair, she did tell us before we left that her units do rent quickly.  I did not know she meant that if we did not fill out an application right that very second that it would be gone.  We had expressed our very strong interest in the apartment, she was going to send us the link to the 1 bedroom to compare, and we'd fill out the app online.  As we were leaving she offered to give us the application (I assume "to-go" since she was already about to greet her next clients) so I told her not to worry about it and I'd just fill it out online.  That was clearly a really stupid mistake.

I'm irritated with myself because I should have just filled out the app right then, paid the $35, and then if we got home and asked follow-up questions and it wasn't what we wanted, we could have just backed out and ate the measly $35 app fee.  Hence the "*headdesk*".

They also have communities over near the Park Lane area but ehhhhh.  I know there is a lot of effort going on to revitalize that area, reduce crime, and move the lower income tenants in complexes that are falling apart to other areas... but there's still more bad than good  as I see it.  I just don't know that I could ever feel safe there.  I might drive by tonight to see where exactly they are located and what its like at night.

I really have no idea why I'm so upset by this.
