dance lessons

Has anyone taken lessons for their first dance?  What are we supposed to wear?  i was told no sweats, and my fiance is to wear dress pants and shoes.

My husband and I took a few lessons to learn the foxtrot, but we wore whatever we wanted. We dressed comfortably except for the last lesson, when I wore my wedding shoes and the long petticoat that went under my dress. (I wore it over jeans as it's pretty see-through.). I thought that would give him an idea of how big of a dress he'd actually be dealing with and it was good for me to get a feel for dancing in the day of shoes. It sounds like your dance studio is stricter than the one we went to so maybe you ought to call and see what their expectations are. But I highly recommend learning in comfortable shoes and switching to your dress shoes once you get the hang of things. Good luck!
