Bluebonnets

Ok, I know it's Texas and you can't pickk any wild bluebonnets, but does anyone know if there are florists or nurserys in the dfw area that carry bluebonnets that can be used for the bouquets? I think it would be so perfect for a spring Texas Wedding!

Actually, that's a myth. It isn't illegal to pick bluebonnets, even in Texas: CLICKY.

So there's your legal lesson for the day. :) That being said, I would assume that most florists have the ability to purchase them. However, for my cousin's wedding last year, I know that she wanted bluebonnets (just a few, for a memorial seat for her mom), but she didn't end up having them. I think the reasoning was the expense. I believe the florist talked her into using something else because they were just so pricey.

  • You can sometimes buy them at Calloway's or some of the other specialty nurseries.  However, they do die very quickly after being taken out of the ground and you'll probably pay about $7-10 a pot.

While it's not illegal, you can be prosecuted for damaging/trampling them.  In other words, they don't want someone coming through and picking all the ones in a field along the road and ruining the experience for future generations.  After the bluebonnets die, those flowers become the seeds for next year.  I would just use caution.
