Talk to me about fall TV shows

It is SO quiet in here lately, where is everybody? I should be working, but the beginning of the month is so ridiculously slow I can't stand it.

What shows do you watch/DVR weekly?

Are you trying out any of the new shows this season? Which ones?

J and I have about 15 shows set to record weekly, maybe more. We don't always watch every show each week (like Chopped or E! reality shows), but others we are addicted to have a higher priority. J hooked me on How I Met Your Mother, but we watch Parenthood, Grey's, Glee, The Office, Modern Family, Dexter, and Homeland religiously.

We are trying out The Mindy Project (I wasn't completely sold on the first episode last week, but willing to give it another shot because I heart Mindy Kaling) and The New Normal. J watched Revolution and said it wasn't bad but I haven't gotten around to it yet. I was tempted to DVR 666 Park Ave. last night, but couldn't because of Dexter and Sunday night football conflicts.

What about y'all? We have Netflix and I want to add something new to the queue!

Re: Talk to me about fall TV shows

  • Our DVR will be chock full of Grey's, Dexter, and The Walking Dead once that returns. I REALLY wanted to like Elementary (the new Sherlock Holmes show) but the script was absolutely nauseating. I think I'll give Scandal another go this season. We are catching up on Breaking Bad on Netflix after axing it a few years ago due to how ridiculous the storyline developed and so far it isn't as annoying as I remember.

We are Chopped, House Hunters International and Property Brothers regulars, but don't DVR those. I've been dropping the ball on Project Runway and I'll try to catch up with OnDemand.

Personally, I can't wait for Suits to return in January. Love. That. Show.

I haven't gotten around to Revolution either, but it looks interesting! Let me know if you get into it and I may try to catch it on OnDemand.

I know that some of the girls on here were huge Revenge followers- is that show still good?

I am sticking through the final season of the Office, even though Nellie is so annoying. I don't even love to hate her, I just hate her character.

We are about to start watching Revolution, since that is BIL's new employer, and we really want the show to do well!

We also love Modern Family, and we heard the New Normal is REALLY good.

We really don't watch that much tv.... we do a LOT of movies.

ETA: Um gawd I forgot to pimp out Fashion Star, since that's the show H worked on during pre-production. He's not on it during filming, though.
  • I can't really get past the first few episodes of The New Normal...J seems to like it okay, but I feel like there need to be more storylines going on. The part of the grandmother reminds me of Arrested Development a little bit, but it feels like they're trying to hard. Maybe it will get better, but I'll have to really be bored to watch the 2 newest episodes.

I totally agree about Nellie on The Office. I am so annoyed that they kept her character around if for no reason other to rile Andy up. I was so hoping Dwight would cut her hand off so she could bleed out and be gone. I love that show, but it is not anything compared to how it used to be. I'd almost prefer to pretend it was over and just watch re-runs.

I have heard a lot about Breaking Bad--maybe that needs to be the next series that we get caught up on. J loves a lot of the FX/USA/TNT shows like Suits, Psych, White Collar and The League that I have had a hard time getting into.
  • FI and I love New Girl and Parks and Rec (if you haven't watched Parks and Rec and you're looking for something to netflix, stop reading this, and immediately proceed to your xbox/ps3/computer/bluray and enjoy). But seriously, amazing show (admittedly, it does start off slow, but by the second season it gets good, and by the third season it becomes the best thing I've ever seen).

Watched Revenge last night, it was AMAZING. Already even better than anything from S1. They are setting up so many different mysteries and story arcs that I am just so excited for. Also...Nolan's been hitting the gym. mmmmmmmm.

FI and I caught part of the premiere of Revolution, but there was so much belief to be suspended that it was just too much for us (like, wow, what amazing hair/teeth/clothes you seem to have...).

I originally liked The New Normal, but I might have been done after last week. In fact, I may be oficially done with anything the self-important Ryan Murphy creates.

I had some hesitance with the pilot of the Mindy Project, but there were lots of little moments from all the actors, and I, too, love Mindy, so I will definitely be sticking with it.

And Aeliza-definitely stick with scandal. It may just be my giant girl-crush on Kerry Washington, but I loooooooooooooove that show (and I'm not typically a Shonda Rhimes fan...Greys and PP never did it for me).
  • Oh.. I forgot to say this because I guess I am kind of over it... but eff Greys. I loved Mark and I don't think I can deal with a whiney Arizona. I guess we will see.

Arco- I totally have a girl crush on Kerry Washington too! She is what makes that show for me!

Glad to hear you guys like New Normal- might have to give that one a try.

OK maybe this is my problem with parks ane rec. I watched 75% of the first season and it felt like homework sitting down to watch it every week. I love LOVE amy poehler, but I could NOT get into it and always wondered why everyone raved about it.
Maybe I will have to just start season 2 and restart!
  • I love the supporting cast on Parks and Rec, but I just am not down with Amy Poehler. It must be from her SNL days, but I just do not find her funny. We catch the very beginning of it every now and then when one of our DVR episodes runs long, but can't bring myself to watch an entire episode.

Even though Grey's has its' ridiculous moments and storylines, I still love it. I was almost expecting for Addison to show up to say her goodbye to Mark and dredge up a whole bunch of asshattery, but they refrained. I couldn't believe it, they seem to never pass up moments like that.

I had the same problem when it first started, I made it about 2 eps and wrote it off as a bad The Office: Local Govt Edition. , but by the end of S2, everyone was just raving about it.

Court, it makes me sad that you don't like Amy Pohler, because she is just so amazing in the show, and I find it a national tragedy that she hasn't won the emmy. A lot of it has to do with the character of Leslie Knope, who if she were real, would probably be the most amazing thing ever. Again, people who have only seen the beginning of the show may see her as just a female Michael Scott, but she's so so so much more and I think Amy plays her with so much heart and depth but just the right about of kooky. Sorry, I'm going on. I'm a rediculously big tv nerd, and this is probably my most favorite show ever (behind maybe Pushing Daisies...rip), and I could talk about it for hours.

    Anyone watching the Voice tonight?
  • Love this post! Our regulars are Grey's, Modern Family, Revenge (yes it's that awesome and even DH LOVES it!) and Sons of Anarchy, which I highly recommend! Up next on our Netflix is The Wire, then Breaking Bad, so glad to see the comments on that one! And, glad I stopped watching The Office!
  • Kylie - Don't write off the office for the last season! They said they're going to wrap up a bunch of storylines, including the guys 'behind the scenes' who have been 'filming' the office people all this time.
I'm actually really excited to see how they are going to treat the ending, even if it isn't what it used to be.
  • Did anyone who's watching the New Normal catch it last night? I was all but set to give it up, but I heard some positive things about last night's episdoe.

Nope, but I've been meaning to record it. I have to agree with you on New Girl though. I freaking love that show. Maybe it's just because I'm such a Zooey fan but I watched both of the new episodes last night and it literally had me laughing out loud. H thought it was funny too, but wasn't quite as amused as me. Haha.

I'm also a Revenge fan (although H makes fun of it the entire time we watch it), e.g.: "Ooh no...who's she going to kill next?!" and "This season she finds out she has a mom, next season it will be a brother, then the next one it will be a long-lost cat! This show will go on forever!" Rude.

We also watched Revolution this week and I thought it was decent. Not sure if we'll be avid fans yet or not, but I'm trying to give it a chance.
    Anniversary

This sounds like FI when I watch Vampire Diares. (Which, is amazing BTW).

And I just can't ever get enough of New Girl. I think they're handleing the Nick and Jess thing so perfectly-giving us just enough and keeping the tension alive, without destroying the tension by actually putting them together. Nick pretty much makes the show for me though.
