Photographer Pricing?

We have a tight budget, but I think the photgraphy is the most important to invest in because you'll wear your wedding dress one day, but you'll see the pictures for the rest of your life. I, myself, am a freelance photographer, and I'm not being picky, I would just like to have a photographer that would fit into the style that I like. I've found many photographers with that style, but my fi freaks out and says he doesn't want us to spend any more than 1,000 on photography.  Anyone that i find at that price (especially here in Vegas) they shoot the amatur style traditional isle backshots, or over editing, or just making something black and white.

I have found some really good photographers at (average) 1500-2000

am I reaching for the stars? Has any else came across this problem? A good photographer is going to cost more than those you just pick up at a run down Elvis Chapel.  I've already talked to him about this and nothing seems to open the perspective.

Is 1500-2000 really too much for a photographer? Especially a good one?

Wedding photography is one of those things that absolutely falls into the "you get what you pay for" category.  People with nice equipment, good editing software, and lots of experience charge more.  Period.

A good photographer will know how to make you look your best in low reception hall lighting or harsh mid-day lighting, will take into account that you think you look better from your left side, and will make sure that your hair is in place.

Maybe show him some of the photos of the photographers that you like, and then show him photos of some cheaper photographers that you don't care for, and hopefully he'll see the difference and realize that this is a really good investment!  Remember that every photographer can luck out and get a good shot, which will be the one to grace the website and flyers; to make sure you've got a consistently good photographer, ask to see an album from an entire day, or view the proofs from a wedding.

As you said, the dress, the cake, the flowers, etc. don't last, but you'll have these photos forever.  Make sure that you are getting what you want.  The last thing I would want to do is spend my wedding day wondering if my photographer got the photos that were really important to me.
