length of time you want a photographer for?

I was curious as to how long other people booked their photographer for their wedding day.  Our reception will be 5 hrs, and then the ceramony time, also I want to get pictures on the beach between the ceramony and reception.  Then I saw people also have them when you are getting ready as well.  So any suggestions of how many hours I should book them for? Thanks

I would discuss the timing of your day with the photographer who's work you like. Different photographers will need different time frames and it depends on how far each of these locations are from each other, how large your wedding party is, how large your family photo list is etc.

okay, i was thinking at least 8hrs. The two photographers I am looking at one has an 8hr package and the same package for the other photgrapher is 6hrs and $300 more than the other one..Which would leave paying per hr after that and the one charges $250 per extra hr and the other one charges $50 per extra hr.  They both do really nice work... So i'm thinking the one with 8hrs. The locations are pretty close the beach church and reception are five minfrom each other and getting ready then to the church is about a 15 min drive..

8 hours is pretty much the average from getting ready to cake cutting. Some phtoographer have up to 12 in their package to cover rehearsal day before etc, but 8 hours is always safe. :-).

I had mine 8 hours--getting ready to the end of the reception.

8 hours seems normal

Note that unless you're doing some big send-off at the very end of your reception that you want photographed, you don't need the photographer there for the last hour or 2.
