Pictures at Night?

I am planning my Wedding for Nov 9, 2013 for a 5:30 reception. I wanted to do outside  pictures but this is going to be tough with not having daylight that long in november. The ceremony and reception are going to be in the same place. The place I like doesn't really have an onsite place for pictures.....Any Ideas????

HELP!!

I really do not want to have to change my date because of pictures :(

Some people said to do the pictures before but then that means my fiance would see me before ....

Re: Pictures at Night?

  • Ask your photographer for sample of work taken at night. It's all about balancing ambient light (mood lighting in the background) and the external flash. Some great shots are done at night because of the ambient light. Will you have cocktail hour right after the ceremonY? Can you possibly move the ceremony a little earlier so you have time to get pics right after the ceremonY? If anything, trust your photographer. Best of luck!
  • Taking pictures at night should pose no problem if your photographer is experienced and has the right equipment.  Most photographers can find a suitable area to do the forma pictures. As someone already pointed out, your photographer might need to bring additional lights – called strobe lights – these light up the background or can introduced some backlight so that people don’t just fade into a dark background.  If the background is unsuitable, your photographer can bring a portable backdrop.  Usually, your pictures are done in cocktail hour – shouldn’t take more than 30 minutes or so. Then join the party and enjoy yourself.  Talk with your prospective photographer about all of these concerns.  Good luck!  P.S.  I am a successful full-time videographer in the DC area and after hundreds of events; I feel I am qualified to offer this advice.
