two reheresal dinner questions

1. who gets invited to the RD? just those actually involved in the ceremony or other family members, out of town guests ect...

2. We are having a pinic, grilling burgers and hot dogs and i need idea ofr sides. keep in mind that our reception food ib BBQ( we live in KC and it was the only thing my groom had an opinion about!) so our sides at the reception are cole slaw, bbq bns, potato salad and cheesy corn.  I need some ideas/recipes!!!!

Question #1:  The RD can be whomever you want it to be.  For our son and DIL's RD, we had a "pre-rehearsal" picnic (the rehearsal for the Sunday wedding had to be after Saturday night mass) in our back yard.  We invited everyone in the WP and all OOT guests. 

It was nice because the bride and groom got to spend time with OOT family that they didn't really get on wedding day.

1.  Traditionally, the RD is for those people involved in the actual rehearsal of the ceremony, plus grandparents.  But sometimes the groom's parents feel challenged that the wedding and reception will be so expensive, so the groom's parents throw a really expensive RD and include all the OOTs to show off.

2.  Salad.  You'll have some people there who can't eat burgers and can't eat hot dogs, so the salad will be the only thing they CAN eat.

Or perhaps they throw a larger RD and include OOTs so that they have some extra time to share with their families who have traveled thousands of miles for one weekend.  They'd like to spend time with them before the busy wedding day when they'll be pulled in so many directions that they won't get uninterrupted time with their family and friends.

Perhaps it has nothing to do with "showing off" and everything to do with loving their family and friends enough to want to spend time with them.

1. Sometimes the rehearsal dinner is just the people at the rehearsal.  When you do it like that it is a nice intimate affair and you could do dinner at a nice restaurant or something.  Other times the rehearsal dinner is a big party for extended family and OOT guests.  Do what works best for you, your families and your budget.
2.  Typically the rehearsal dinner should be less formal than the reception.  So I see why you are concerned about your hamburgers/hotdogs vs. BBQ.  They are both kind of picnic like foods... but hey if that's what you and your fiance love then do it!  Its not like everybody doesn't love both of those things.  Kids and picky eaters will be well taken care of.  Other sides: Mac & Cheese, chips (could put them in pretty colored plastic bowls), watermelon (you can carve this into a basket shape and have lots of little melon balls in it), Green beans and of course french fries!  Good luck!  (we're doing BBQ & an oyster roast for my rehearsal dinner and both fiance and I can't wait!)

</div><div>As far as who is supposed to and not supposed to be invited to the rehearsal dinner as long as you invite your WP, and immediate family (however you define that) you're good.  Anyone after that does not need an invitation and it is entirely up to you whether or not they are invited.  Most people do not expect an invitation to the rehearsal dinner so the majority of your guests will not be offended if they are not invited.  OOT guests don't have to be invited but it's always a nice gesture to invite someone to dinner, especially family members/friends you don't get to see often and who you may not get to spend time with at the wedding.</div><div>

ok, my favorite recipe is corn casserole which is probably like your cheesey corn.
1 can regular corn
1 can creamed style corn
1 cup uncooked macaroni
1 cup velveta (I know I think velveta is gross too but it's so good in this recipe)
1 stick of butter cut up

stir all together, pop in the oven @ 350 for 45-40 minutes stirring every once in a while and remove when noodles are cooked to your liking.... so yummy, might have to make it tonight! and of course you can double this or triple it and it would still probably fit in one 9x13. I know doubling will.

and for my RD- inviting wedding party/ spouses/ and of course our parents and grandparents. keeping it simple at a little italian resturant, again yummy :)GL

I really wanted to invited OOT guests and WP because I wanted more time with them but then we would be invitng 85% of the actual Wedding Guests so no go on that.
Depending on your Guest List OOT may or may not be an option. But I agree with everyone else your WP, or VIPS are a must. Think of the practice round and don't forget the parents of kids that have a part. :-) (ie Flower Girl and Ring Bearer Parents )
