Need Help thinking outside the box!

Your input is greatly needed!

I am the MOH who needs some serious creativity. The bride is recovering from an illness that does not allow her to drink and her diet is very selective. All forms of traditional revelry will simply not work for this bride. We hosted a tea party for her bridal shower and she could not eat any of the culinary delights and, I believe, was a bit depressed throughout the whole thing.

Without the drinking, dancing, eating, cooking classes, wine tasting, etc available to me, I need help!

Any thoughts?

Re: Need Help thinking outside the box!

  • What is her favorite hobby or past time?  One bride posted recently about wanting her Bach party to be tailgating prior to a baseball game.  I know that would probably not work for your friend, but maybe you can find an idea like that.

What does she do when she wants to go out for a nice evening on the town?  Is this a recent illness or something she has been dealing with for a long time?

She has been struggling with this illness for a few years and is just now beating it. She loves to swing dance but is already a regular at every swing club in our area. Her dietary habits pose the biggest challenge. She love traditional theatre but could not eat anything at a mystery dinner show or the like.
  • You could...

    1. Go see a show.  A traveling Broadway show in the area, Cirque du Soliel, etc.  Something fun.

    2. Host a movie night where everyone gets together and watches movie/spends the night.

    3. Go to a spa to get pedicures/manicures/massages... whatever you guys want!
  • Not all celebrations need to be centered around food. I think the pp ideas of the theater or a spa is a great idea. If she has a limited diet and you want some refreshments, see what she can eat and have a simple picnic or meal centered around what she can eat. Personally, I think that having a party that involves an activity, such as a class (if it is a bachelorette party why not a pole dancing class or a strip tease class) or going to new place will be a lot more fun than if you try and do something centered around food were she will be thinking about what she can't do, instead of the fun she is having.

As Kartish mentioned, there are lots of other cool classes to look up- pottery making?

You could also have an at-home "party", like Pure Romance or Athena where they sell sex toys, or Origami Owl (lockets), makeup ones, candles, MovingComfort (I think- they sell undergarments and do bra sizings), and make sure that any snacks are things that fit her limited diet.

  • I think the spa idea is great one and then after have everyone come back to someone's house and have food that you and the other bridesmaids made that meet her dietary needs/restrictions. You can then finish off the night with board games or the Wii....
