Wedding Colors

How did you choose your colors?  Was it based on the season, venue, all around favorites?

I am very indecisive about all things wedding.  Second guessing every choice I make.  At first I thought I wanted shades of blue and light brown but then I saw grey and yellow and it looked nice too.

I promise - I'm not asking you to choose my colors!!!

Just wondering how you all came to make your choices.

LOL - when I saw this, I thought "oh geez...she wants us to pick her colors!!"

My colors (black and white), I decided I wanted to go with something classic and timeless... (and easy!)... so black and white it was!

I had an immediate vision in my mind of my wedding when I started thinking about it--I saw golds, creams, white flowers and a big all-white wedding cake.  It was something I just knew from the beginning.

So when we picked our venue and saw it came with gold damask linens, that pretty much sealed it for me and I went with it.

ETA:  Those are both great color schemes, and the grey/yellow is very chic right now.

I pretty much based it on what I love them most in terms of colors.  Definitely not based on the venue at all.  I knew my favorite colors were purple and blue so I went to a website for inspiration (theperfectpalette.blogspot.com/).  Hope this helps!!  It's also so hard not to second guess everything.

I went with fuschia and green with chocolate brown accents because I had a seen a wedding a few years ago with those colors and it stuck with me as being really pretty.

Fuschia is my favorite since I was a child, and my dad always bought me fuschia colored things and to me this was a way including him in the wedding since he has passed away.

In general, I wanted fun , vibrant colors which worked well in our Persian ceremony/wedding.

I have wanted red as a color for my wedding since I saw one about 6 yrs ago.  I thought I was going to have to convince DH that we needed red but his favorite sports team is the Red Sox and his fraternity's colors are red and green so he was all on board!  As for picking it for the venue it was actually opposite for us.  When we to visit the venue for the first time they had it set up for a red wedding and I fell in love!!

I wanted pink and black from the get go but I must have changed it three times between then and the wedding because other people would say it looked too sweet 16ish.  I love bright pink and black and that's why I chose them.  For ME and MY wedding.  Pick whatever you like and feel most comfortable with and try to drown out any naysayers.

I LOVE fuchsia as well...but I didn't want one of those "pink threw up all over my wedding" looks.  So I went with primarily black and ivory with fuchsia accents.  It worked out really well!

For years, I was certain that hot pink was going to be my wedding color (with black and off-white)... More recently, I was really wanting to do purple with lime green - I still love the color combination (and luckily, it's one of my FI favorite color combinations)... When we started planning though, to simplify, I really needed to pick 1 "color" as the FI's actual favorite color combination is black & white (he likes contrast)... I thought about doing hot pink still (though purple is pretty much my favorite color), but we are having our ceremony at The Flamingo in Vegas - and in addition to being a little mean to the men in the wedding, decided it may be a "pink overload"
We decided to just do ivory, black and royal purple (see David's Bridal "Regency") - with a couple little "pops" of hot pink (in flowers, etc)

Yeah, that was our whole decision making process on colors:)

I've always wanted a winter wedding, so I wanted darker hues. My original picks were
    Marine (navy), Champagne & Chocolate.

Making some changes to a lighter blue, keeping the chocolate and champagne but adding a brown color in between the chocolate & champagne.

My favorite color is purple.  Sergio's favorite color is green.  Purple and Green.  We did have way more purple than green - but if he wanted more he should have done more of the planning.  ;)

I love red... but I did not want my BM to wear red dresses... so I chose chocolate and red... now after seen so many pics in here I have decided to throw in some purple as well...

Red is my favorite color.  We're both Aggies so maroon would have been nice but we were getting married in May and I just felt it would be too dark.

I really wanted aqua and hot pink but then I kind of decided that I couldn't find matching aquas and hot pink could pose a problem.  Plus, it wasn't like I was 24.

So I settled on red and pink.  I thought the pink was a nice contrast and didn't make everything red but then very little was pink.

Some people say to pick your location 1st and try to match it but I disagree. If you really love blue/brown then go for it! I thought I had my colors picked but I think I have changed my mind this week. I thought I would have brown dresses with yellow/orange flowers but I am changing the dress color to purple. Purple is my favorite color so I think I should incorporate that in to my wedding. I am not worried about any colors that are in my venue.

I've picked black, white and red for my wedding colors.  I've always liked those colors together, and have loved all the pictures I've seen of other brides that chose those colors for their wedding. I think they seem classy and since its going to be an evening wedding in the fall, I figured they would fit in with the atmosphere. Plus, I wanted to incorporate a lot of red roses (my fav. flower) and let my bridesmaids wear black dresses (so they can be worn again)

    Good luck choosing!

Yes, someones.  But no one on here, honest!!

..and there is nothing at ALL wrong with a pink wedding.  It just didn't "fit" me, even though it is my favorite color.

I originally wanted a purple and dark green springy wedding. Those sound really gross together but I saw a table set up in those colors in a magazine that looked sooo pretty. Then when I found my dress that I loved, it was light gold and more fancy looking than I was originally thinking, so I scrapped the springy design. Then I used the Behr paint program at Home Depot to figure out what goes good with light gold, and it pulled up a combo with blush & dark purple. So those are my colors! I'm leaning more towards different shades of purple with only a little blush in the flowers, I don't want it to be too pink.

Are you using the Marine @ David's? That is the color that I have finally decided on for my BM dresses!!

I was partial to light blue when I first started planning, but wanted to go for a darker shade of blue so as to not 'wash out' my girls if they didn't have a strong tan. My sister and I have olive skin thanks to our mediterranean roots, but for my future nieces that have irish blood in them, it would have looked a little off. FI wanted yellow, but I'm not really a fan. The rest of the color palette is a work in progress.

mine were a combination of season and favorites. i was originally going to do sherbet colors (lime, tangerine & aqua), but when we moved it from early summer to late summer/fall, they didn't make sense anymore. i stumbled onto some vintage calico fabric that i absolutely LOVED and it drove the rest of the design.

i think any color works with any time of year, as long as you pick the right shade and accents. i especially love when i see a fall wedding that's NOT orange and brown. i love those colors, but you can do so much more with that time of year!
I knew I wanted green, so I have been working on finding color that went well with that...  The best color I've come up with is yellow, which is only a little unfortunate since I went to Baylor, so now the challenge is finding a way to use green and yellow without making this a Baylor wedding.
    Posted by mrsamandamiller
i don't know if you noticed, but my wedding was yellow & green. ;)

grey is a really nice, modern accent color, too. i'd check out marthastewartweddings.com. she has some really nice color ideas.

We kinda chose our colors based on the season.  FI said no pink (my favorite color) so we went with blues and greens.  To help us decide, we went to a hardware store (or walmart) and looked at the paint samples to get a better idea of what we really wanted.
In Response to Re: Wedding Colors : I did!  I want your shoes! We're throwing in some orange to kind of de-Baylorize everything, and I actually suggested grey suits but FI vetoed.
    Posted by mrsamandamiller
we had a little bit of orange in with the flowers, because there was some on the fabric that we designed the invites around. it was a nice accent.

would he go for a darker grey? charcoal? i think grey looks so nice. black is SO formal to me and makes everything look really sharp and harsh. it CAN work, obviously, but i like the softer feel of the grey.

I originally wanted fushia with a light green but FI said no pink and so I asked him what he wanted and he said blue.  My response was I am fine with blue but I get to pick the shade of blue and accent color, so we ended up with aqua and chocolate with white.

I love my wedding colors but whenever I see yellow and gray I am a tad bit jealous :).

oh, and on the shoes, i can't find them for sale anywhere, or i'd totally link to it. but i got them on etsy, from a vintage seller. you might be able to find something you like on there that you wouldn't be able to find in a regular store.

I've always loved blues and pinks (my 2 fav colors). So that's what I wanted my colors to be. However, FI wanted a red and black wedding. So I compromised. Navy and Black for attire (and little details like black table overlays and decorations on the cake) fallowed but reds and pinks for flowers. :) All 4 of our colors in our wedding! :) (Invites will be navy and black)
