Parent Gifts...

What is everyone giving their parents and in-laws as a gift?  Not sure exactly what type of gift to give.

Re: Parent Gifts...

  • We aren't giving anything until after the wedding--and at that point it'll be pictures & albums for the parents. Hopefully they understand... and I know the pictures will be worth it!!

For the moms, I'm paying for their mani/pedis and hair/makeup so that counts as kinda a gift (but not really).

Interested to see what everyone else is doing... I hope I'm not being cheap!

  • We're keeping the gifts pretty low-key.  I etched our wine flutes for the toast and votives for the bridesmaids.  I was thinking about etching a vase or a bowl or something for the moms.  Not really sure yet.

We're giving our folks both a square glass picture frame vase (purchased on TK shop for like $35 each) with some fresh flowers the day of the wedding, and probably a hand written, heartfelt card with a $50 gift card for a nice dinner out.

We will probably also do parent albums after the wedding (along with ours), using Shutterfly or whatever site I can get a LS/Groupon deal for. =D

  • For my mom I am making a scrapbook of pictures from me growing up and will leave the last page blank to be filled in with a picture of me and her the day of the wedding.  We are also undecided on everything else.  We kinda decided he will do his mom and I will do my parents.

  • I think we will make parent albums for them. I mentioned the concept of parent gifts around my mom a long time ago and she said she would actually yell at us if we spent money for the wedding on buying her a gift LOL. But we'd still like to do something small as a nice gesture. We also got the moms embroidered handkerchiefs for the day of the ceremony.
  • My FI is getting a watch for his dad and my mom is going to make a necklace for his mom. We purchased 2 tickets to the NY Philharmonic for my parents, complete with parking voucher. My dad is a musician and my mom complains that he never takes her anywhere nice...so. Perfect reason to dress up!

We're also getting parent albums and a copy of our wedding video for each.
  • We're going pretty small w/ parent's gifts.  We had hankerchiefs embroidered for my FMIL, my mom, and my grandma.  Each one with a personalized message and our wedding date.  We're also planning on making parents albums after the wedding for us, my mom, my grandma (who i'm very close to), and FI's mom (his dad is passed).

  • I saw these on etsy, and I've decided to DIY them.  These are just for my parents.  FI just wants to keep it simple for his parents, we're thinking a gift certificate to a really nice local restaurant.

  • We're getting them a nice silver photo frame with the promise of wedding photos, and then a hankie for the moms and a tie bar/cuff links for the dads.

I love the idea of some sort of 'date night' gift, but I'm not sure how we'd do it long distance.  I'll think on that.
