Texas-Dallas and Ft. Worth

some NWR help needed

I got the position I wanted so badly, so thank you for all your good thoughts my way.  I start Sept 7th which is right after my b-day and hopefully gives us enough time to get moved to Dallas and situated.

WIth that being said the plan is first to move into a month to month lease apartment while we look for a house.  The job is in Coppell and I am open to any surrounding cities in any direction that can get me there in 20 min or less (hours are 12-9) so traffic shouldnt be a terrible issue.  I have looked at maps for a while but just from a map I am not sure of what really is around a 20 min commute or less.  Recommendations?  Like I said its temp and the more options the better since month to month leases are hard to find.

Second we will be looking for a house so anyone know any good realtors you can give me information on?

Third we are thinking we want to look for a house in Carrollton primarily but would also consider other areas that are to the east of Coppell and North of Dallas.  Recommendations or feedback on Carrollton?

Whew that is a lot.  Thank you ladies for any help you can provide.

When I was looking a few years ago there were lots of temporary options in Lewisville and Grapevine because they're so close to the airport. Since they are for business travellers, a lot of the short lease apartments are furnished, and a little higher priced. But maybe it'd be easier to store your furniture and things, than unpack and repack everything? Either location would be very close to Coppell.

Ditto Grapevine & Lewisville.   Also Las Colinas (North Irving) has TONS of nice apartments that should have month to month corporate type leases.

As for homes, Carrollton, Lewisville, the Colony, and Frisco are all along the 121 tollway which takes you right up to Coppell.  (there are plenty of alternate ways to go as well, the tollway is just the fastest)... Southlake and Grapevine would also be good options but can definitely be pretty pricey so it just depends on what your looking for.

Coppell  itself a pretty nice area as well.

I have a house in Carrollton and it's about 15 mins to Coppell with no traffic, and our apartment was in Farmer's Branch, right on the Addison border so we were really close to all the restaurants & bars there. I would also advise you to consider how close you want to be to Dallas proper or the airport. My friends used to live in Grapevine but hated it since it was so far west. It also depends on your price range, as some areas are pricier than others. Personally I don't care for Lewisville because I find it hard to get around.

My realtors were John & Mollie Hancock with Ebby Halliday, they really sweet and knowledgeable people, and will be really honest with you and look out for you. I have recommended them to 2 friends, both of whom found homes they love.

Congratulations! First Mariah, now you, hopefully this is a knottie-employment trend!

I grew up in Carrollton and I live there now, so I'm pretty partial to the area. It's fairly accessible to just about any area of the metroplex (I currently commute to Denton) and it has a number of nice neighborhoods that aren't outrageously overpriced.

Fab realtor is Karen Ball with Ebby - she helped me buy 'my first place.'  Tell her Joanne send you and you'll get VIP treatment!  :)

I currently live in Carrollton near the addsion border, and I really love it!  We are close to 635, 35, and 190. Addison is super close for restaurants and bars and downtown is only about 20 min away!

Congrats on the new job.  Not much to add to everyone's post, they all gave great advice.  The main thing you guys need to do is decide what is important to you in a location.  If you plan on staying in a house, look at the school districts, shopping around the area.  How "grown" it is now and what potential growth could be (empty land, etc).  Growth can equal traffic.  Just things to think about.  :)
