March OMH question:

Ok I need the advice from the OMH's here, specifically if your wedding took place in March. The invites have been printed with a 6:30pm start time, I checked the farmers almanac beforehand but now I'm thinking that it may need to start earlier at 5:30 as sunset is around 7:30. We are doing a "first look" and taking pics before but there will be some after the ceremony. The ceremony/reception are both outside so I need light after the ceremony for pics. So the question is for anyone who had a March outdoor wedding what time did you set your start time?

Thanks

Re: March OMH question:

  • I would start it earlier if I were you. I didn't get married in March (end of May) but we pushed our start time to 7PM, took pics, then BARELY had enough light for the first dance/father daughter dance pics after dinner at 8PM. Sunset was at 8:15 (a little over an hour later). Since it doesn't really get too warm in March, I would say the earlier the better for light reasons.
  • yea i think youre right, I'd rather be on the safe side plus from what i hear guests are not always on time so if the invite says 5:30 we would start around 5:45. we only have 50 guests so hopefully they are all prompt.

I disagree.  If your invite says 5:30, you start at 5:30.  The people that ARE there on time will appreciate it.
  • I know i appreciate a prompt start time but since we only have 50 guests it will look bare if 10 of the seats arent filled. We are serving a drink to guests as they arrive so if we start a few onutes late i think it will be ok, hopefully we wont have to but I want to plan in case we do.
  • I got married the first week in April and we had a 6pm start time (I think) and we still had plenty of time for some pics afterwards.  Our ceremony was only 20 minutes and we started on time (with only 40 guests).  We took a few pics immediately after the ceremony then came in, did our first dance and ate some dinner, then went back out just when the sun was setting for some more pictures.
