How many is too many?

We are looking to register soon and have found a few items we like at a couple different places... with that in mind, how many places should a couple register at?

Re: How many is too many?

  • Yep. Three should be a max. Even if you only have a few items at each place, four or more registries just looks excessive.
  • You should try Amazon and do an online registry. You can register from many, many stores but it's all on one registry.

  • I disagree with the majority and think anything from 2-5 is fine.  As a guest I like having lots of choices of places to buy a gift from with lots of options to choose from.
  • We registered at five places. The reason we did five was because our families are from two different towns. The nearest large city would be an hour for each family. They literally live in towns on opposite sides of the city. We chose four stores that were all in the city. Target, Walmart, Bed Bath & Beyond, Macy's, Dillards. FI family can easily access Walmart, Dillards and Target with out leaving their town. My family can easily access Walmart, Bed Bath & Beyond, and Macy's without leaving their town. They still have the option to go into the city if they want, but they also have closer options. Obviously, I suggest considering stores that are near your guests so they don't have to travel. I wouldn't only register at an online location because not everyone uses the internet (i.e. my Grandfather can't find the lower case letters on a keyboard). If most of your guest live where going to a store wouldn't be a problem, I would try for 3-4 locations.

  • I'm biased, but I think 4 or 5 (I did 4) is completely fine. My family is spread out all over the country and everyone has preferences on where they prefer to shop. I wouldn't even bat an eye if someone did 6.. I would think, "nice I have a lot of choices on where to shop". I love my amazon registry, but I'd say only 10% of my guest lists preferred the online thing.. so it's nice to have a variety of places.
  • Hi...I registered at 4 places. Originally I thought this was a bit excessive as others have posted, but to be honest I dont feel that way anymore. We registered mostly at Macys and Bed Bath and Beyond, but then we registered for just a few specialty things at Williams Sonoma and Crate and Barrel. You only get married once and I don't think I will ever have the luxury of shopping too much at those two places, but it woudl be great to have some neat things from there....yet I know the more traditional family and friends of mine will stick to Macys or BBY, but it gives people options! Good Luck!
  • I'm reading a book by Mindy Weiss, wedding planner to celebrities, and she recommends no more than 3. I'd have to say I agree with her. We are registering at Macy's, Crate & Barrel and Target.
