In bad taste?

Is it rude to just ask for money as gifts? We already have everything we need for our home and don't want gift cards. 

Thoughts? I'm assuming it's in bad taste, but it's what we really need!

All of the following speak to the issue of asking for cash as a wedding gift.  Take time to read ALL the replies, even if the original question doesn't specifically mention "how to ask for cash".

What you'll find is that there is not a gracious way to do something graceless.
